Arctic Monkeys took in three categories while others like Britney Spears and Amy Winehouse brought home shame for being picked 'Worst'.

AceShowbiz - In the awards event presented by NME Shockwaves this year, Arctic Monkeys won the coveted title of Best British Band after beating Babyshambles, The Cribs, Klaxons and Muse. The winning gave the Sheffield rock act a third trophy since they had pocketed Best Track for "Fluorescent Adolescent" and Best Video for "Teddy Picker" earlier that night.

"Thanks everybody and thanks everybody upstairs too," said Alex Turner addressing the other contenders in the category who sat upstairs. "Ta ta!" The frontman took the prize from model Agyness Deyne, who joked that he was late to the stage because his girlfriend Alexa Chung had food poisoning.

Losing from the Monkeys, Muse still managed to claim Best Live Band. Also announced later on are Best New Band that was taken by The Enemy, Best Solo Artist that was given to "Foundation" singer Kate Nash and Best Album that was won by Klaxons through their album "Myths of the Near Future".

In the International tally meanwhile, The Killers was crowned Best International Band and Nirvana's "Unplugged in New York" was deemed Best Music DVD. In an interesting result, Britney Spears' "Blackout" was voted Worst Album.

Beside focusing on music categories, event that was held at London's Indig02 on February 28 also gave out prizes for non-music categories like Best TV Show, Best Film, Best Website and many more. U.S. president George Bush was voted Villain of the Year while Amy Winehouse gained Worst Dressed title.
