Big nominees Mika, Leona Lewis and Take That have survived the cut to determine the 5 songs worthy to be listed under Single of the Year.

The nominees of Single of the Year at the upcoming 2008 BRIT Awards have been downsized from ten to mere five. Those 'surviving' the cut are Mika's "Grace Kelly", Take That's "Shine", The Hoosiers' "Worried About Ray", Leona Lewis' "Bleeding Love" and Mark Ronson's "Valerie" feat. Amy Winehouse.

The five British singles have beat out five others that include James Blunt's "1973", Kaiser Chiefs' "Ruby", Mutya Buena's "Real Girl", Sugababes' "About You Now" and Kate Nash's "Foundation". Voting for the winner on this category has been opened for British public on the official site.

Hosted by Ozzy Osbourne and wife Sharon, the ceremony to hand out the statuettes will be held Wednesday, February 20 at London's Earls Court. Nominees in other categories have been unveiled in January with Mika, Lewis and Take That leading the British acts with four nods each.

On related news, the event will also grant Paul McCartney with Outstanding Contribution To Music Award honor which will be handed to him through Kylie Minogue.
