It was the night for alternative bands at mtvU Woodies Awards that was held on Thursday, November 8. Groupies such as Gym Class Heroes, Muse and Boys Like Girls scooped the top honors at the event that appreciates music loved by college students.
Gym Class Heroes was named Woodie of the Year aka Artist of the Year whose music have helped the students to 'survive' throughout 2007. Muse was hailed as the Best Performing Woodie for their live performances always 'worth it'.
Relatively new Boys Like Girls rightfully earned The Breaking Woodie for standing out among the new acts this year. Meanwhile, The Academy Is... brought home Viral Woodie, an award for acts that made a sensation on the Internet.
Other winners include Say Anything, unsigned act Stella by Starlight, Guster, Madvillain and Spoon. Ironically, The Shins who earned three nominations walked out the event with zero award.
Performers on that night include Lupe Fiasco, Spank Rock, Rilo Kiley and Tokyo Police Club. Amy Winehouse was missing from both the winners and performers list. Presenters include Fall Out Boys and Annie Lennox.
The fourth annual mtvU Woodie Awards ceremony was held at New York's Roseland Ballroom and will be broadcast simultaneously on MTVU and MTVU.com on November 15 at 8 p.m.
