Eva Mendes has given her commitment to star in Frank Miller-directed "The Spirit."

AceShowbiz - Going from one comic-book adaptation to another, "Ghost Rider" star Eva Mendes has secured a starring role in "The Spirit", Lionsgate Films' big screen version of the fictional American masked crime-fighter created by writer-artist Will Eisner.

Becoming the second female name after Scarlett Johansson to board the project, it is still unclear, however, what role Mendes is billed to play, but production has been confirmed to start October this year at Albuquerque Studios in New Mexico. Frank Miller will direct from his own script with Deborah Del Prete, Gigi Pritzker, and Michael Uslan all producing.

Mendes, widely known for her performance in the 2001 critically-acclaimed film "Training Day", initially underwent stints in commercials and music videos before making her way to the big screen. She actually was cast for the role of Susan Ortega in 2003's comedy hit "Bruce Almighty" but sadly had to drop it due to scheduling conflicts.
