Foxy Brown Leaving Def Jam for Her Own Label

Foxy Brown

Foxy Brown has signed a deal with Koch Records to establish Black Hand Entertainment and will release an album at the end of this year.

Off her turbulent personal life, Foxy Brown is back concentrating on her music career. The raper inked a deal with Koch Records to establish an imprint label called Black Hand Entertainment with her manager Chaz Williams sitting as the CEO.

The deal with Koch means she has left Def Jam, her label of 13 years. "I have always been a symbol of independence as a female in music," Brown said. "My brand is already established, millions of my records have already been sold, and I have a fan base already loyal. After 13 years at Def Jam, I felt it was time, as a mature businesswomen, to move on and continue my brand under the roof of something I own."

Chaz explained that Brown herself would be the first and biggest artist to be signed under the new label. It will also see her creativity being switched to "dancehall reggae roots". The kind of artists she is willing to sign next are those "up-and-coming Caribbean and U.S. artists".

Stated in the contract with Koch, Black Hand is to release 3 albums per year with the first being Brown's 'Brooklyn's Don Diva', due December 4. The first single from the album will hit radio within the next few weeks. Her long-worked studio album 'Black Roses' meanwhile, is slated to arrive in early 2008.
