The case Pitt was in line to hear was over before it began as the defendant pleaded no contest to driving under the influence charges and potential jurors were excused for the day.
On Pitt's jury duty TMZ.com celebrity news website reported that the actor was granted several delays to report for duty before finally being ordered to show up or face contempt of court. His representative, however, denied that he was ever in risk of contempt of court, and said the actor went through the normal legal channels to seek an extension before finally reporting to the courthouse that day.
"There was no ultimatum from the court. He obtained all his extensions by the book. He called in just like everyone else did and had to serve today," the representative said in a statement.
