Entertaining and funny, it's hard to not fall for "Hairspray" indeed and the charm apparently has also captured those in charge for this year's Hollywood Film Festival.
In celebrating the eleventh anniversary of the festival's Hollywood Awards, organizers of the event announced Wednesday, August 8 that cast of the musical flick will delightfully be bestowed Hollywood Ensemble Acting of the Year Award - Musical/Comedy. Kudos will be presented Monday evening, October 22 during the Hollywood Awards Gala Ceremony held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, Beverly Hills, California.
"We are very proud that we will be recognizing the great talent in 'Hairspray.' The cast is a fantastic ensemble of multi-talented established and emerging actors," Founder and Executive Director of the Hollywood Film Festival Carlos de Abreu stated.
Featuring starry cast lineup consisting of John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Zac Efron, and Nikki Blonsky among others, "Hairspray" is an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning 2002 Broadway musical of the same name which was based on John Waters' 1988 comedy film. Though it has set new record for the biggest sales at opening weekend for a movie musical with $27.5 million, the film in contrast has received criticism from gay community due to Travolta's portrayal of Edna Turnbald as well as his declaration of "there is nothing gay in [Hairspray]", which was seen by some as insulting the tradition of the work.
