Amy Winehouse may have just endangered her position to claim Nationwide Mercury Prize as she angered a number of fans during a concert in Cornwall, England on Tuesday (July 17). The funk singer delivered a disastrous performance that night where spits and jeering were involved.
Although some fans may have expected erratic behavior from Amy, a large part of the audience were there to purely watch her talent. And by paying 33 pounds, they got a confused Amy who cried in frustration after forgetting her own lyrics.
She began the show smoothly with two songs but soon got off stage without any explanation. Upon returning, she looked 'blank', mumbled swearings, slapped her face a few times and knocked her head on the microphone.
One concertgoer said, "Everyone thought Amy was acting rather strangely. She was wobbling around the stage, muttering to herself, swearing and slapping herself in the face. It was as though she was trying to snap herself out of something."
Rounding up the wrecked concert, she disgusted the crowds by spitting on them. Her entourage quickly escorted her to backstage whereupon the crowds began jeering at her.
"The gig became absolutely awful," a fan said. "Members of her entourage were coming on to the stage, obviously worried she couldn't go on, and she would just shout "f*** off" at them. Everyone in the crowd just felt sorry for her."
Amy’s rep explained the incident saying, "Amy was annoyed with herself. She is a bit ring-rusty after not having played for a while and was upset after making a few mistakes in the set."
The singer has been a continuous disappointment to her fans in the last few weeks as she frequently cancelled her gigs while spotted having a drink in a pub with her husband a few hours later.
