"Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" creates multiple box office records at IMAX screens in its first week.

AceShowbiz - Success after success keep hitting "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix" following its wide release earlier this month. Reigning both domestic and international box-office charts, the teen wizard tale now is creating another sensation by virtually shattering every opening box office record at IMAX screens, IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. Pictures announced Monday, July 16.

Contributing $7.3 million of the $140 million that it grossed at the domestic box office throughout July 11-15, pic not only breaks the largest five-day opening record, but also those of IMAX's largest single day worldwide total with $1.9 million and biggest opening per screen average of $80,500. More to say, the movie satisfyingly sets a record-smashing worldwide estimated total of $9.4 million after becoming the largest opening in IMAX's 40-year history, being released on 91 domestic and 35 international IMAX screens.

"The results from this film - in all formats - are outstanding. It's by far the strongest 'Harry Potter' title in the franchise, breaking records for both the Studio and IMAX," Warner Bros. Pictures' President of Domestic Distribution Dan Fellman remarked. "The increased number of IMAX venues and the first-time 3-D finale delivered a huge opening weekend win for the large screen format - we're thrilled for their achievement."

The fifth part of the widely successful fantasy franchise based on J.K. Rowling's book series, "Phoenix" brings back the principal cast from the previous installment with some new members that include Imelda Staunton, Evanna Lynch, and James Utechin. British filmmaker David Yates directs from script by Michael Goldenberg, who replaced Steve Kloves, the screenwriter of the first four films.
