Johnta Austin has penned Grammy winning song for Mary J. Blige and is even trusted to “save” Whitney Houston's music career. The producer and songwriter is now demanding the spotlight to shine on him through the release of “Ocean Drive”.
A debut record for him, Austin has worked on this one for a long time. The album that was originally scheduled for last year is said to have the “timeless” factor. “When you think of Miami's Ocean Drive, you think elegance, you think classy, sexy, fresh-all the things we feel this album is", said Austin. "We tried to create an album that is timeless."
“Ocean Drive” will be dropped September 4 via Jermaine Dupri's So So Def/Island Urban Music. First single with Dupri titled “Turn It Up” has been roaming online since last year and reached a heavy airplay. A new single “Video” featuring DJ UNK is coming on the way as the next reason why people should buy his record.
Contribution also come from Blige on “Hood Love”, a track telling the story of two people who “fight more than they get along…but at the end of the day, really love each other…” Jazze Pha, Teddy Bishop, Bryan Michael Cox and Dupri are some people included in the production panel.
"In my words Johnta is a sound we are missing in today's music," Dupri told The BV Newswire. "(He has a) recognizable voice, undeniable melodies (and deals with) everyday topics. And with my production, (it's) very reminiscent of how R&B made you feel in the 90's."
