David Beckham is lending his profile for a new campaign besides those he did for Adidas, Gillette and Police sunglasses among others. The soccer god has become the face of mosquito nets, putting his name to an anti malaria campaign supplying the potentially life-saving nets to Africa.
Beckham is having his figure featured in a commercial screened in the US for MalariaNoMore.org urging viewers to pledge $10, the cost of one net, towards the cause. The black and white advertisement shows the hunk practicing his trademark curling free-kicks.
"Since I've been young, I've always practiced free-kicks. What's important is getting in to the zone - I don't change my mind," Beckham says. "If I take a good enough free kick the goalkeeper won't stop it." He was then seen driving the ball into a goal with a missing net and it slams straight into a grounds-man. A message then appears reading, "We need more nets. Mosquito nets could stop 3,000 African children dying every day."
The charity commercial has been televised at peak time during hit show "American Idol."
