Oliver Hirschbiegel Heads "The School"

German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel has been assigned by Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment to direct their based-on-true-story drama "The School."


Heading to his next directing stint after that in "The Invasion", German filmmaker Oliver Hirschbiegel is on board to helm dramatic feature "The School" for Universal Pictures and Imagine Entertainment.

Based on true events happened in 2004, the project will depict the three-day siege of an elementary school in Beslan, Russia by armed Chechen rebels. About 1,200 were taken hostage in the school gym with around 300 people died by the end of the standoff.

Production schedule on the picture has not been set yet, but it is confirmed that "City of God" scribe Braulio Mantovani has been hired to pen the screenplay.
