Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow will play Tony Stark's personal assistant Virginia "Pepper" Potts in Paramount Pictures' superhero flick "Iron Man."

AceShowbiz - Becoming the first major female actor to join "Iron Man", Gwyneth Paltrow has given her agreement to be lined up with Robert Downey Jr. and Terrence Howard in the project's cast, Variety has revealed.

The site added that the Oscar-winning actress is billed as Virginia "Pepper" Potts, a personal assistant to Tony Stark, played by Downey Jr., a rich industrialist who later decides to become the Iron Man to fight against evil on a global scale.

"These are popcorn films designed for broad audiences, but there are multidimensional characters that have brought us the best luck with actors," Kevin Feige, Marvel Studios president of production, remarked.

Principal photography will begin in March in Los Angeles to meet a May 2, 2008 release with Jon Favreau at helm and Arthur Marcum, Matt Holloway, Mark Fergus, plus Hawk Ostby all penning the script. Meanwhile, Avi Arad and Kevin Feige are both producing for Paramount Pictures.
