James Brown Biopic Finds Its Director

Spike Lee has signed on to direct "Godfather of Soul" biopic.


The "Godfather of Soul" James Brown will rise again - on screen - this time the feature film will be directed by Spike Lee, the "Inside Man" director. Produced by Brian Grazer's Imagine Entertainment, Paramount Pictures, the movie could be production by late 2007.

''It's an authorized biography done with the cooperation of Mr. Brown before his passing,'' Paramount spokeswoman Nancy Kirkpatrick said without further comment to Variety.

The script was originally penned by Steve Baigelman but later rewritten by Jez and John Henry Butterworth.
