Weekend U.S Box Office of December 15-17, 2006

Pursuit of Happyness, The picture

Rags-to-riches tale "The Pursuit of Happyness" replaces Mel Gibson's "Apocalypto" as the top holder of weekend domestic box office ended December 17, 2006.

Three pictures made their debuts last Friday, December 15 and all amazingly have created such hard blow to smoothly secure the top three of weekend box office ended December 17.

Leading the chart is Columbia Pictures' fact-based drama "The Pursuit of Happyness" as the inspiring rags-to-riches tale successfully pulls $26.5 million during its three-day run followed by fantasy-adventure flick "Eragon" and Paramount's enjoyable children's story "Charlotte's Web" which score $23.2 million and $11.4 million, respectively.

Penguin 'toon "Happy Feet" comes out next on the fourth place after managing to collect $8.3 million, slightly above Sony Pictures' Yule-themed "The Holiday" that garners $8.01 million to make a total of $25.1 million in its second spin on the list.

Meanwhile, last-week champ "Apocalypto" stumbles down to number six following its fair attempt to add only $8 million into its pocket yet it is still capable to beat out its rival "Blood Diamond" as the Warner Bros. release sadly fares even less at $6.5 million.

Making up the top ten of the list are Sony's 007 adventure "Casino Royale" on the eighth rank with $5.6 million, New Line Cinema's "The Nativity Story" on the ninth with $4.6 million, and Warner Bros.' comedy flick "Unaccompanied Minors" on the tenth with $3.5 million.
