One of the film locations was Island View Beach on the Saanich Penninsula on Vancouver Island.
It was definitely filmed in Cowichan Bay and Brentwood Bay - I know it well and have just taken that very same ferry this summer. The castle (Hatley Castle) is at Royal Roads near Victoria, on the ocean. It used to be a military college like the RMC in Kingston Ontario, but is now a university. Btw, it does get warm in B.C., even on the coast!
It was filmed in Victoria BC and in Cowichan Bay BC.
I would like to know where to buy the soundtrack of the Mermaid Chair...the music was so beautiful

I loved the book and the movie. But was disappointed in the film location! My son lives in the Charleston area, and I have been to those Islands. it is flat, no mountains or hills. it was distracting and a bit disturbing.
Love it, where can I get the dvd
I loved the back ground music as well. How can I get the soundtrack of this movie?
Mirella, it was filmed at Victoria Island in British Columbia, Canada. That must be why they all looked like they were up north (and cold) instead of in South Carolina (and warm).
