Sean Connery is suing the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks for $1M for allegedly using his "worldwide celebrity" to fatten its reputation

AceShowbiz - Sean Connery is suing the Sherwood Country Club in Thousand Oaks for $1 million, claiming they have used his name to boost business and failed to pay back money he said he was owed when he ended his membership.

Filed the lawsuit at Los Angeles Superior Court, the actor claimed the country club had used his "worldwide celebrity" to enhance its reputation and thus seeking more than $500,000 for breach of contract and more than $500,000 for "unjust enrichment".

Further the court documents revealed that aware of Connery's lucrative status as an "internationally renowned celebrity and famously avid golfer" the club then invited him to join in 1990 at a special initiation fee of $35,000. Since then his celebrity boosted the club's value and attracted new members.

In 2004, when Connery ended his membership under the terms of his contract, he should have been allowed to get back 80 per cent of the going rate for membership - estimated to be around $500,000. However, the Sherwood Country Club refused to pay up.

"The lawsuit was not our first choice," said Louis "Skip" Miller, Connery's attorney. "But they won't honor their obligations, so we had no choice but to file." On the other hand, club membership manager Karen Jacobs refused to comment on that matter.
