As announced Tuesday Jan 31st by Sid Ganis, Academy President and at Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills, CA, gay romance "" gloriously leads the 78th Annual Academy Awards nominees, taking eight nominations. The flick ups for the categories of Best Picture, Best Actor for , Best Supporting Actor for , Best Supporting Actress for , Best Director for Ang Lee, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography, and Best Music Written for Motion Pictures.

Following close behind is "" and "" which score six nominations each. As of the previous film, it vies for Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor for , Best Director for Paul Haggis, Best Original Screenplay, Best Film Editing, and Best Music Written for Motion Picture. Meanwhile, the latter flick is nominated for Best Picture, Best Actor for , Best Director for , Best Original Screenplay, Best Art Direction and Best Cinematography.
