Music Hero: James Taylor

James Taylor will be honored February 6 as the MusiCares person of the year at a gala dinner in Los Angeles

American singer-songwriter and guitarist James Taylor will be honored as the 2006 MusiCares Person of the Year for a career that spans nearly four decades and for his efforts to promote children's health and the environment. Taylor will receive the honor February 6 at a gala dinner in Los Angeles, an event that will feature a tribute concert and silent auction.

About that Neil Portnow, president of the Recording Academy and its MusiCares Foundation said Taylor is being honored "as an extraordinary human being, musician and humanitarian who has made a global impact on music and culture. As the quintessential singer/songwriter, he embodies the creative spirit that is the hallmark of our finest and most enduring musical icons. His impact on the music and culture of our era has been enormous."
