R. City, also known as Rock City, has been around and ruling the charts for quite a while, with songs they've created for other artists. The duo comprising of brothers Theron and Timothy Thomas is probably best known for writing and producing songs for the likes of Nicki Minaj, Miley Cyrus and Rihanna.

Hailing from Saint Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands, the brothers started out at age 5-6 as backup dancers for a local group in their hometown. In order to pursue their music career, they moved to Miami after graduating high school.

Not much happened to them in Miami, so they moved to Atlanta and started getting into songwriting. After they penned a song on Akon's "Konvicted" album, they began writing for a lot of other high-profile artists. By 2007, they'd written for Sean Kingston, Usher, Ashlee Simpson and more.

In 2014, they contributed to three separate albums that ended up receiving Grammy nominations. The albums included Cyrus' "Bangerz", Ariana Grande's "My Everything" (both were nominated for the Best Pop Vocal Album Award) and Iggy Azalea's "The New Classic" (Best Rap Album).

After years of working behind the scenes, R. City enlisted Dr. Luke to help them with material for their upcoming album. They tapped Maroon 5's Adam Levine for "Locked Away" which is the first offering from the project to be released on Kemosabe/RCA Records.

"Dr. Luke and Cirkut worked with Maroon 5 on 'Sugar'. They told Adam, 'We have this act from the Virgin Islands, you might have heard of them.' Adam actually had heard of us. He said, 'Let me hear the song.' He liked it, and here we are," R. City told Radio.com of how they got Levine on the song.

The track's inspired by the Thomas brothers' real experience in the past. "Our dad was locked up for five years," they explained. "And during the time he was gone, our mom held it down. She'd take us to see him. They're still together to this day. They've been together for 36 years. So we thought that that was a great story to write a song about."

The song has been climbing up charts since being released a few weeks ago. It's currently sitting at No. 16 on Billboard Hot 100.
