"It was a very difficult year," Lea Michele said in a recent interview with E! News, referring to 2013 when she had to deal with the tragic death of his boyfriend Cory Monteith. She added, "Yet somehow something beautiful came out of it."
Michele's debut album, "Louder", was originally scheduled to arrive last year. Following Monteith's passing, Michele decided to record and add more songs related to her "Glee" co-star who died of lethal combination of drugs and alcohol back in July.
As she tried to move on with her life, she worked with Australian singer/songwriter Sia Furler for "Cannonball" which later came out as the lead single off her album that's set to be released in the U.S. on Tuesday, March 4 via Columbia Records.
"My goal in all of this was to make an album that was honest and was true to me," she said. "I didn't record one word that I didn't feel I could relate to, whether or not I wrote it or it was given to me. These are words, these are parts of me. And so I'm very proud of it, and it is something beautiful that did come out of a very difficult time."
When asked which one is her favorite song off "Louder", Michele said, "I would say that my favorite song is definitely 'You're Mine'." She explained, "It's really about making that commitment in a relationship, about at the beginning being scared to take the leap, but when once you take it, committing yourself to another person and saying, you know, this is it, for life."
The New York native's album will also include "If You Say So", which she said were the last words Monteith told her. In another interview with Seventeen magazine, she revealed some touching details behind the song.
"It's about my last conversation that I had with him," she said. "I spoke to a woman who lost her son, and she mentioned how grateful she was that the last words she said to her son before he died were, 'I love you.' Mine were that as well ... [The song] is just about that. There are lots of different emotions - if you could see this person again, what are the things you would want to say to them? It's a personal story."
