From an ex-con to a musician, Lyfe Jennings is the perfect example of how taking the hardship of life into good accounts can make a really big difference. The singer's impressive life story on top of the success he has achieved today have inspired AceShowbiz.com to pick him as the Artist of the Week in the week 18 of 2008.
Beside pocketing high achievements, Jennings is also due to release another project called "Lyfe Change" on April 29. The album will be his third effort after the platinum-selling "Lyfe 268-192" in 2004 and "The Phoenix" in 2006. The singer who puts himself in the R 'n' B category, has been particularly consistent in spawning his works to date with an album per two years.
The first single from the new album, "Cops Up" has nicely climbed the ladder of Billboard Hot R'n'B chart and peaked at No. 68 but the second one, "Never Never Land" performed better by peaking at #21 on the same chart.
Since the release of his studio albums Jennings has also been a favorite artist to be featured in other artists' album as well as in festivals. In 2008 alone he has been featured in an album by Bizzy Bone and tapped to perform at the 2008 Essence Music Festival alongside Rihanna, Keyshia Cole, Musiq Soulchild, Kanye West, Mary J. Blige, Chris Rock, Chris Brown and many more. Jennings will be featured in the Superlounges segment this July.

A background story that make up the X Factor of an artist is also crucial in building a fan base. Lyfe Jennings is particularly having 'it'. Born as Chester Jennings on June 3, 1978, he already had a vision of life since his youth. In his hometown of Toledo, Ohio he formed a teen singing group consisting of his brother and two cousins and named themselves Dotsons. The group was short-lived but Jennings continued to pursue a career in music as a solo. The plan did not go as smooth as expected for brutality, lacking a father figure and harsh environment led him to a life in prison. He was only 14 when he was sentenced for arson and required to go behind the bars in 1992. But it was exactly the same place that brought him back to reality and fortunately, also changes to the teen. » more
