Weekend Box-Office List of Aug 4-6, 2006

Will Ferrell really takes full speed in driving his vehicle this time. Feeding off favorable review for delivering good laughs, his latest flick of "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby" satisfyingly scored an estimated opening weekend gross of $47 million to race to the top spot on box-office for sure. The amount turns out to be far beyond what its major challenger, "Barnyard", has collected as the animation feature merely managed to garner $16 million to secure the second place in the list.

Right behind this Paramount's wise-cracking animal 'toon, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" still did well with $11 million followed by last-week's champion, "Miami Vice", which had to go down to the fourth position after only adding another $9.7 million during the weekend. Lionsgate's horror movie "The Descent" came next after gaining $8.8 million, lapping "John Tucker Must Die" whose sixth-place feedbag was filled with $6.05 million.

The Disney sequel "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" remains on the top position in the box office this weekend, marking the flick's third straight weekend to be the number one movie, taking in $35 million in ticket sales with its total reaching for $321.7 million after just 17 days being released in the worldwide theaters.

The adventure, action, comedy flick, tentatively titled "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest", taking in another $62.2 million in ticket sales, thus rules the movie chart for a second weekend.

On top of that attainment, the movie also has quickly become the year's top-grossing film, rocketing past "X-Men: The Last Stand," which has taken in $232 million in eight weeks, with the "Pirates" sequel raising its 10-day total to $258.2 million. Meanwhile, The Wayans brothers comedy "Little Man" claims the 2nd spot with about $21.7 million, just one place ahead of "You, Me and Dupree" at 3rd with $21.3 million.

In the upcoming Universal Pictures' "You, Me and Dupree" moviegoers would have seen Kate Hudson and co-star Owen Wilson star in. The by Mike LeSieur comedy will be directed by Joe Russo and Anthony Russo, and will start its production this year. It tells the story of a newlywed couple whose relationship issues boil over when the groom's unemployed best man moves in for a brief period and seems to have no intention of leaving.
