Comedic Flick Why Did I Get Married Rules Box Office
October 15, 2007 04:10:10Comedy genre apparently still becomes major option for moviegoers to watch in theaters. That's because Tyler Perry-directed "Why Did I Get Married?" surprisingly came out as the top holder of the weekend box office running October 12-14, 2007 despite its Oscar heavyweights-highlighted fellow new releases.
The Lionsgate release debuted well on the chart by raking in $21.4 million, toppling down last-week champ "The Game Plan" which fell to the second place with $11 million. The Disney comedy was followed by newcomers "We Own the Night" and "Michael Clayton" on the two positions below in competitive tally of $10.8 million and $10.4 million, respectively.

Janet Jackson Can't Wait to "Get Married"
February 27, 2007 02:02:51Making a comeback to film industry after her last big screen appearance in "Nutty Professor II: The Klumps", Janet Jackson has taken a starring role in dramedy "Why Did I Get Married?" for Lionsgate Films, Variety has revealed.
Rounding out with Sharon Leal and Jill Scott in the cast, the singer will come under the direction of Tyler Perry who is also on duty to pen the script as well as to star in and produce the flick. Production is said to begin March 5 this year in Whistler, British Columbia and Vancouver before shifting to Atlanta.

Lionsgate Gets Double from Tyler Perry
November 18, 2006 09:11:37Extending its collaboration with writer/director/actor Tyler Perry, Lionsgate Films is set to produce not only one, but two flicks of the man's writing works entitled "Why Did I Get Married?" and "Jazz Man's Blues."
Both urban-themed features, the former one will be made based on Perry's stage play of the same title which deals with the trials of marriage while the latter, set in the south in post-WWII, centers on a struggling singer who becomes a Ku Klux Klan's target after having an affair with the wife of a racist man.
