Assassination Thriller 'Vantage Point' Took Box Office Lead

The political thriller "Vantage Point" became the number one film at the North America Box Office over the three-days weekend ended on Sunday, February 24. The Dennis Quaid-starrer film about the assassination of a U.S. president through the eyes of eight witnesses pieced together $22.9 million on its weekend debut.

Opened on approximately 3,800 screens at 3,149 theaters, the film attracted many male as well as young audience. According to Sony's exit polling, 52% of the audience was male and 51% was under the age of 30 years old. With the earning that almost doubling the grossing of last week's champion "Jumper", the heavily promoted film starring also Matthew Fox and Forest Whitaker knocked the Hayden Christensen-starrer film from the top box office position.

Though it is not until February 15 next year that "Vantage Point" hits cinemas nationwide, an international trailer for the flick has delightfully surfaced up on the net for those of action-thriller fans to take a look at.

Placed on Sony Pictures' Swedish site, the trailer can be viewed using either Quicktime or Windows Media Player. Access to the trailer can also be obtained through Vantage Point Trailer section on AceShowBiz.

After her famous and claiming-fame role as Lieutenant Ripley in the 1979 "Alien", Sigourney Weaver is ready to show some actions in a new thriller by Columbia Pictures, "Vantage Point".

The movie itself is revealing the assassination attempt on the U.S. President, and having Pete Travis as the director and Barry Levy wrote the movie script. Meanwhile, Neal Moritz will collaborate with Tania Landau in the credits for the producer and executive producer.

What's new from movie industry is Forest Whitaker's addition to the lineup of the forthcoming drama thriller "Vantage Point". The actor reportedly has signed on to co-star in the Pete Travis-directed flick, joining Dennis Quaid, Matthew Fox and William Hurt.

Written by Barry Levy, "Vantage Point" will be produced by Neal Moritz through his Sony-based Original Film. As of the story, it chronicles an attempt to assassinate the U.S. president in Madrid and is told from five points of view, unfolding in 15-minute increments.

Dennis Quaid and Matthew Fox are about to take the "Vantage Point" as both of them are close to signing to topline the Columbia Pictures' film project written by Barry Levy.

Of drama thriller genre, "Vantage Point" is a Rashomon-style thriller that depicts the attempted assassination of the president from five different points of view.

Though not a brilliantly cast movie, the direction seems to put the movie in the right direction but the screenpla couldve been better with a little bit more planning. Ofcourse it has the tag of an international movie but lacks the lusture to perform. The story is good but 1 thing i dont understand is howcome dennis quaid doesnt recognize the pseudo president after taking a bullet for him earlier, does he suffer from amnesia? I guess the director didnt put a thought to it. Overall its watchable.
