Chris Pine Confirmed as the Next Jack Ryan

Among several actors who were mentioned circling the next film about Jack Ryan, has successfully taken the lead role. Being met at the press conference of "" on Friday morning, December 4, producer Mace Neufeld has updated the status of his upcoming , stating that the depicter of James T. Kirk in "" is set to play Jack Ryan.

Beside giving information about the casting, Neufeld also shared a little about the story. According to the filmmaker, the next film will not be based on one of Tom Clancy's novels, but rather will be an original screenplay written by Adam Koxac [with a script draft by Hossein Amini]. "We pick him up when he's on Wall Street. But I'm not going to tell you the rest of the story...," he spilled about the plot.

The new face of Jack Ryan could be found in the form of . According to Variety, the actor who takes on the role of James T. Kirk in 2008's "" has begun negotiations with Paramount Pictures for an opportunity to topline the reboot of the franchise which is based on the Tom Clancy novels.

On late Tuesday, October 13, the studio has confirmed the report. The statement from Paramount Film Group president Adam Goodman read, "Tom Clancy created an unforgettable character with Jack Ryan. With Chris in this role, we've taken our first step in creating a re-boot that lives up to the successful lineage of the franchise."

To MTV News, the 49-year-old pushes aside the speculation of him serving as the helmer of the Tom Clancy's adaptation reasoning that he is committed to do "". He said, "Because I'm committed to 'Spider-Man' and making that picture, I think it's going to knock me out of the running for the Jack Ryan picture."

Though revealing that he is most likely not being involved in the project, Raimi still hopes that he is not completely cut out from any Tom Clancy movie saying, "I love Tom Clancy, and I hope they'd keep me in mind." Back in March, the producer of horror remake "" has been reported by Variety to be in negotiations to direct the reboot as well as its possible sequels.

Following report on director Sam Raimi being attached to the "Jack Ryan" reboot movie, an interesting tidbit on the casting has developed. It is now rumored that , the actor who played Peter Parker's best friend-turned enemy, Harry Osborn in "" series, has been considered by Raimi to take the lead role in the Tom Clancy's adaptation, "".

By that, it means that Franco has been eyed to fill the shoes of CIA analyst Jack Ryan, who has been depicted previously by , and . Offering a contrast to the possible casting of the 30-year-old though, CHUD mentioned that Paramount Pictures and Raimi have clashed over the idea, especially since Paramount weren't so eager to hire Franco due to his box office modest records.

If Tom didn't write it, I won't go see it. Hollywood's already messed up his book enough. I don't think anybody should support this movie.
