'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' Settled for Second Slot at Box Office
January 27, 2009 08:01:35Vampire horror movie "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" should be satisfied with a second place position at the North American box office. Though grossing $20.8 million on its opening weekend, the Patrick Tatopoulos-directed film was still unable to steal the top position from "Paul Blart: Mall Cop".
"Rise of the Lycans" actually started the weekend strong. On Friday, January 23, it led the box office with $7.9 million in its pocket and overshadowed the $5.6 million bow of "Paul Blart". As the weekend ended, it was then unveiled that the "Underworld" prequel has become the weakest of the "Underworld" franchise as "Underworld: Evolution" opened to $26.9 million and "Underworld" brought in $21.8 million in its first weekend.

'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' Takes World Premiere to L.A.
January 23, 2009 02:01:43On Thursday, January 22, exactly a day before "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" opens in theaters across the U.S., Screen Gems have given the supernatural thriller a red carpet treatment by holding out a world premiere event. The special screening event took place at the ArcLight Cinemas in Hollywood.
Attending the premiere were some of the movie's major characters, Bill Nighy who plays Viktor, Michael Sheen who stars as Lucian and Rhona Mitra who portrays Sonja. They were joined by cast member Kevin Grevioux, director Patrick Tatopoulos, producer Len Wiseman and Screen Gems topper Clint Culpepper. Celebrity guests, like Garcelle Beauvais, Kip Pardue and Vail Bloom, have also been spotted at the event.

Five-Minute Featurette of 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans'
January 22, 2009 04:01:02A 5-minute featurette of "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" has been made available to view. Containing many never-before-seen footage from the supernatural thriller, the video features an introduction to Sonja and Lucian by the film's two leading actors, Rhona Mitra and Michael Sheen.
Aside from the descriptions of the two main characters, the featurette also gives background knowledge about the Lycans race itself, explaining the difference between a werewolf and a Lycan. In the video which exposes some of the behind-the-scene footage as well, producer Richard Wright also speaks out detailing what to expect from the film.

Sword Fighting Scene in 'Underworld: Rise of the Lycans' Clip
January 21, 2009 09:01:58Literally days before "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans" opens wide in the U.S., a brand new clip from the "Underworld" series' prequel has been let out. Courtesy of MSN, the snippet is entitled "How Dare You" and displays one of the fighting sequences.
The clip begins with a footage where Sonja is turning her back against her own race and battles the Death Dealers in the midst of heavy rain. After she slashes two of the vampires, she faces her infuriated father, Viktor, who directly slapped her and screamed "How dare you raise your hand to me?" The argument between father and daughter then continues with a sword fight between the two.

Focusing on introducing the two unlikely lovers, privileged-born vampire Sonja and slave-born lycan Lucian, and what they are capable of, the video traces the background story behind the centuries-old blood feud between the aristocratic vampires, Death Dealers, and their onetime slaves, the Lycans.
Opened with a scene where vampire elder Viktor praises his daughter, Sonja, as the fiercest warrior he has ever seen, the trailer displays Sonja and Lucian breaking all the rules by becoming lovers. Then, it moves on to the time when Lucian is fed up of being slave and rallies his fellow lycans to rise up against their enslavers and thus, the second half of the trailer shows mostly the battle between the vampires and the lycans.

Kate Beckinsale Said No to 'Underworld 3'
February 28, 2008 03:02:38The English actress Kate Beckinsale won't be reprising her role in the third installment of the action fantasy film franchise "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans". According to IESB, the co-star of Hugh Jackman in "Van Helsing" has revealed that she won't be returning to the film's series.
At the junket for her upcoming drama film "Snow Angels" to open in theaters on March 7, the 34-year-old actress revealed that she won't be making any cameo appearance in the Screen Gems' vampire-genre film. IESB noted that the actress confessed that she might reprise her role one day like what Bruce Willis do with "Live Free or Die Hard".

Third Underworld Chapter Set to Rise
October 26, 2007 03:10:11The next take on "Underworld" series is on its way to get shaped up. Report from Variety points out that a director has been named and early cast lineup have already got assembled for "Underworld: Rise of the Lycans."
Lakeshore Entertainment and Screen Gems as the studios behind the project are learned to have appointed F/X maven Patrick Tatopoulos to take the helming duties with Michael Sheen, Bill Nighy, and Rhona Mitra all set to star. Tatopoulos was previously known to be the one who developed the creatures for the first two installments of the franchise.

posted by blue eyes on May 16, 2009of course without this there would have been no 1 and Evolution. It was too short. My case says 92 min but it was actually 80 min. It was good but Rhona Mitra is no Kate Beckinsale.The best part of the movie was the effects. Especially at the beginning when sonya is being chased by William's hoards through the forest then to the castle when Lycan Luscian grabs the crossbow and takes out two werewolves with one shot. Another thing i liked was the fact that they distinguished the difference between Lycans and William's werewolves. I just thought the first was amazing and the second was good but this was slightly not as good as 2.
posted by not great on May 17, 2009i love this movie i thought i waz good!! i really like the part when Sonya gets in trouble by her hot daddy viktor cuz she's been havin sex with Lucian!! hahahaha!! that waz so funny!! it got even more good when Viktor found out that Sonya waz Pregnant from Lucian!! now the reasdon i watch the movie is cuz Viktor always gets mad!! i love Viktor i think he's SEXY!!!! eeep!! i love Viktor , Kraven (just wanna go to bed wit him) and MARCUS!! i think there hot! i have thing 4 freaky bad boys!!
