'Tropic Thunder' Comes Out Earlier
July 15, 2008 03:07:12It seems that the success of "Hancock" in collecting big from its long weekend opening has inspired Ben Stiller's upcoming comedy "Tropic Thunder" to make a modest change in its release date. Originally slated to be screened in theaters on August 15, the DreamWorks Pictures' tidbit has been pushed forward for August 13 release.
With its new schedule, "Thunder" will have a head start from its competitors, Alexandre Aja's horror remake "Mirrors" and the Warner Bros. Pictures' CGI animation "Star Wars: The Clone Wars". The new slate also puts this comedy movie to face off "Pineapple Express" earlier since "Express" will be released five days before on August 8.

July 09, 2008 03:07:51Apparently, people behind "Tropic Thunder" have found a new way to promote their latest comedy movie. In the latest promotional effort for the upcoming Ben Stiller's movie, DreamWorks/Paramount let out a trailer for the movie's mockumentary called "Rain of Madness".
Giving preview to what happen during the shooting of the fictional Vietnam War movie, the compilation of clips is filled with footages taken on the set and the craziness of the actors and filmmakers involved in the filming of the outrageous war movie. Through this trailer, viewers also can catch bits of "Tropic Thunder" scenes as well as interviews with the three main leading characters. From the new hilarious trailer, viewers can see other takes from the three main characters, Tug Speedman the action hero, Jeff "Fats" Portnoy the comedian, and Kirk Lazarus the award-winner, before they team up to shoot a Vietnam War movie. Describing most of its main characters in a unique way, the trailer presents many unseen footages from the film.
Opened like the earlier released trailer with two U.S. army helicopters hovering above the green field, the restricted-rated footages continue by taking a different look from the earlier trailers. It moves on showing Ben Stiller's character being ambushed and shot many times. Then, the clips go on explaining about the particular character and two other notable characters in the movie by using the footages from their characters' works in the pretentious film industry.

Slash Film reported that the DreamWorks/Paramount Pictures' film featuring Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. will present three mock trailers inside the film itself.
According to the site, Anne Thompson has reported that the existence of the fake trailers has been revealed by an exhibitor who has seen about 15 minutes portion of the Stiller's feature film project. Allegedly, one of the trailers is named "Satan's Alley". It begins with the shot of Fox Searchlight logo and then features Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire.

The high definition video footage took about two and a half minutes of previewing and gives out more idea about the comedic side of the film if compared to the relatively short teaser.
The trailer opens up with action scenes where three American choppers were involved in a war and the soldiers were struggling to survive from the war. The tension from the war scene was quickly toned down as it was revealed that the fallen soldiers were actors shooting for a big budgeted Vietnam war film. Then, the trailer continues with the introduction of each actor involved in the film with funny notes describing the background of the characters.

Unlike other ordinary teasers, this trailer gives out clear pictures of the characters, that includes Jack Black, Robert Downey Jr. and Nick Nolte, which unfortunately are layered over the footages of the film.
The teaser is relatively a short one since it runs just about 46 seconds, but it pretty much shows the hilarious side of the film. The video footage gives out the first look into Downey Jr.'s character as a black man. The footage is ended with burning notes stating when the film hits the theaters. The notes read, "Tropic Thunder...Shit Blows Up...8.15.08."

Now looks like it can be confirmed for now that the mega-star is indeed involved as he has been captured on the set for the project last week.
The thing is, Cruise appeared to have undergone a big makeup for the role since he looked pretty unrecognizable on the location. The actor was spotted wearing a fat suit and bald cap along with beard and fake hair chest.

January 13, 2007 02:01:42Well, Ben Stiller sure is grinning wide by now. Production Weekly has just learned that DreamWorks Pictures finally brings the project into progress as a production schedule has been set up for it to get filmed.
It is reported that principal photography on the flick is slated to begin in July this year with Stiller at helm and as the leadstar. Along with Etan Cohen and Justin Theroux, the "Starsky & Hutch" star also co-wrote the script which he has described to concern "five actors who go on location and find themselves relying on their boot camp experiences when they get stuck in a real war-like situation."
