'Thunder' Still Rumbling at Box Office After Three Weeks
September 01, 2008 09:09:13"Tropic Thunder" stands unchallenged at North American three-day weekend box office. For the third weekend in a row, the Ben Stiller's action comedy film stays at the #1 slot beating out its recent competitors, including "Babylon A.D.", "Traitor" and "Disaster Movie", by grossing $11.5 million.
Though experiencing a 29.2% deficit in sales this particular weekend, the DreamWorks Pictures' movie is the only film at the chart which breaks out the $10 million mark. On the success of "Thunder" in securing the first place for the third time, Media By Numbers' president Paul Dergarabedian commented, "For this movie to finish first three weeks in a row is really impressive. The great word-of-mouth helped, and people are obviously in the mood for comedy."

'Tropic Thunder' Reigns Supreme Twice in a Row
August 25, 2008 09:08:45Ben Stiller's outrageous comedy, "Tropic Thunder", has shown its competitive side by keeping its #1 place at the box office for the second time around. Being the summer movie that dethroned "The Dark Knight" after it dominated the revenue chart for four weeks last weekend, the DreamWorks Pictures' flick collects $16.3 million to add to the total of $65.8 million.
Though its sales dropped 37%, the hilarious film about a group of actors stuck in a real war-like situation when filming a Vietnam War movie is still left untouched by its two new competitors, "The House Bunny" and "Death Race". Commenting on the success, Media By Numbers' president Paul Dergarabedian says, "It's a really funny film. The word of mouth has been incredibly strong. It has maintained its momentum and headed into the weekend with really strong midweek box-office numbers."

'Tropic Thunder' Steals 'Dark Knight' Top Box Office Slot
August 18, 2008 09:08:42"Tropic Thunder", another R-rated movie released this summer, has done what others could not do in the past four weeks, dethroning the blockbuster movie "The Dark Knight". The outrageous action comedy from comedian Ben Stiller debuted atop the weekend box office chart grossing $25.8 million, $9 million more than what the superhero flick pulled in this week.
Compared to the previously released R-rated movie, "Pineapple Express", the DreamWorks Pictures' comedy starring also Jack Black and Robert Downey Jr. outnumbered the $23.2 million "Express" pulled in last three-day weekend. However, if seen from the five-day tally, the $36.8 million "Thunder" brought in is obviously fewer than the Seth Rogen's stoner flick which raked in $41.3 million.

Two out of six new videos, a clip and a behind-the-scene featurette are taken from the movie, while the rest are made in the format of its mockumentary "Rain of Madness".
Telling the story of a group of actors involved in a real war-like situation while filming a Vietnam War movie, "Tropic Thunder" focuses on five completely different actors, pampered action star Tugg Speedman, overweight gross-out comedian Jeff 'Fats' Portnoy, multiple Academy Award-winner Kirk Lazarus, African-American actor Alpa Chino and unknown actor Kevin Sandusky. Dumped by their fed up director in the middle of a jungle, they soon realize that they have to fight for their life when they accidentally cross the territory of a heroine cartel.

The tension from the war scene was quickly toned down as it was revealed that the fallen soldiers were actors shooting for a big budgeted Vietnam war film. Then, the trailer continues with the introduction of each actor involved in the film with funny notes describing the background of the characters.

As a person with 3 degrees and as a African American in the entertainment industry, I saw the humor and was humiliated at how blacks were portrayed. There is a bigger picture that most people with ordinary lives just don't get.

3 degrees in what? gym? either way, I do not understand why someone as intellectually elevated as you would not understand that us 'ordinary' people with 'ordinary' lives do not like to be so bluntly talked down to by some ignorant book-smart snob. Oh and by the way, I'm working on a few degrees myself; it's not as hard as it looks. P.S. the movie was flawless.

Isn't it funny that when a white man depicts a black man, a lot of black people get upset, but when 2 black dudes play 2 white chicks for example almost every white dude/chick laughs his/her ass off...and they say ol' whitey's uptight! Lighten up Kaye, you cracka! As for the retard thing, or even the war thing for that matter, one of Stiller's main motives for making this movie was to hold a mirror in front of Hollywood. He thought it was stupid how actors playing in war movies went to bootcamp to get into the role, or how others 'studied' mentally impaired to be able to act it...it's a comedy dufus, it's not ment to be taken seriously, do your research man!

This movie was hillarious! I reccommend everyone who is not easily offended and that has an open mind to see this movie as it pokes fun at every actor who has ever studied for a part, trailers, addicts, bad acting, good acting, just every aspect that national lampoon and chevy chase and all the good ones left out; they hit with this extremely hysterical portrayal of actors stuck in a real predicament they have no idea how to deal with... whomever wrote this should get an oscar! (BY THE WAY, the sountrack is awesome!)

In the movie if you look under Special Features it will have a “DreamWorks Publics Service Announcement”. This will tell you about RESPECT(ing) those with intellectual disability’s.

This movie ROCKED!!! I only wish it was rated PG-13 cause there were a few scenes that were a bit much....but overall it was great....and I LOVED Robert as the man, disguised as a dude, playing another dude!! Classic!! I was raised on a military base and he hit the nail on the head....my Dad had alot of good black friends and he brought them all back with his portrayal....I'm a minority and found nothing about his role offensive...if anything, he took me back to those old days....Thanks, Robert!!
