The 2007 PRISM Awards Picked Best Movies
April 27, 2007 03:04:53Giving special attention on films presenting accurate depictions of drug, alcohol and tobacco use as well as addiction and mental health issues, Entertainment Industries Council selected on Tuesday, April 24 three big screen titles as the winners of its 2007 PRISM Awards.
For Feature Film -- Wide Release category, the organization ultimately cast its choice on "Thank You for Smoking" while naming "Sherrybaby" and "Shelf Life" Best Feature Film -- Limited Release and Film Festival, respectively.

Nominees Revealed for The 59th Annual WGA Awards
January 12, 2007 12:01:36Celebrating the fifty-ninth time of giving honors to writing names behind either big or small screens, the Writers Guild of America unveiled yesterday, January 11, the finalists of this year's WGA Awards which will take place at Hyatt Regency Century Plaza Hotel in Los Angeles on February 11, 2007.
Scribes for "The Queen", "United 93", "Babel", "Stranger Than Fiction", and "Little Miss Sunshine" all were mentioned contenders in Best Original Screenplay category while those penning for "Borat", "The Departed", "Little Children", "Thank You for Smoking", and "The Devil Wears Prada" earned nod in that of Adapted Screenplay.

Winners at the 2006 Toronto Film Critics Association Awards
December 20, 2006 01:12:24Once again, "The Queen" shines brightly atop the throne. Repeating the achievement it scored at NYFCO Awards held earlier this month, the British royal drama feature triumphantly swept most honors from The Toronto Film Critics Association as the organization handed on its TFCA Awards yesterday, December 19, 2006.
The Miramax release won five categories altogether for those of Best Picture, Best Performance - Female for Helen Mirren, Best Screenplay for Peter Morgan, Best Supporting Performance - Male for Michael Sheen, and Best Director for Stephen Frears, who shared the honor with "L'Enfant" helmers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne.

Nominees of the 64th Annual Golden Globe Awards
December 15, 2006 11:12:03Continuing its annual tradition in giving honors to talented figures in show business, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA) has finally unveiled yesterday, December 14, in Beverly Hills, California, the nominees for the 2007 Golden Globe Awards of which ceremony will take place at The Beverly Hilton with a live telecast airing on NBC on January 15.
Leading the contenders, Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu's multinational ensemble drama "Babel" gloriously scored seven nominations, notably that of Best Motion Picture- Drama alongside "Bobby", "The Departed", "Little Children", and "The Queen." Other major nods secured by the picture included those in supporting categories for its three stars namely Brad Pitt, Adriana Barraza, and Rinko Kikuchi.

In fact, moviegoers find it amusing, judging from its ticket sales which from Friday to Sunday reached $41 million to open atop the weekend box office in North America. Meanwhile, "Ice Age: The Meltdown," which had been No. 1 the previous two weekends, slips one to No. 2 with $20 million.
No. 3 is "The Benchwarmers" which takes in another $10 million. New wide release, Disney's animated tale "The Wild," debuts at No. 4 with $9.6 million, ahead of "Take the Lead" at No. 5 with $6.7 million. No. 6 is drama thriller "Inside Man" which taking in $6.3 million, followed close behind at No. 7 is "Lucky Number Slevin" with $4.6 million.

Taking in another $33.8 million in ticket sales, the flick satisfyingly remains the top movie for a second-straight weekend while also is becoming the first movie released this year to cross the $100 million mark at the box office.
Debut at 2nd place is sports comedy "The Benchwarmers" which takes in $19.7 million and "Take the Lead" is at 3rd with $12.1 million. No. 4 is "Inside Man," which scores $9.1 million in ticket sales, followed after by "Lucky Number Slevin" at No. 5 with $7 million. Secures the 6th place is "Failure to Launch" which takes in $4.1 million.
