Confirmed: 'Sin City 2' to Go Into Production in 2010

It has been long rumored that "Sin City 2" will kick off its production in 2010, and producer Stephen L'Heureux of Solipsist Films has recently confirmed the swirling speculation. In an interview with Comics2Film at Mania.com, the filmmaker gave an update to the start of production suggesting the sequel of "Sin City" will be done in the second half of 2010.

On the occasion, L'Heureux also set things straight on what the sequel will be based on. He mentioned that rather than drawing the story from "A Dame to Kill For", the rumored original comics material director Frank Miller produced a decade ago, this second movie in the "Sin City" series will be based on an original script written by Miller.

There is a chance that "Sin City 2" will kick off its production in 2010. The possibility has been thrown in by the star of "Sin City", Clive Owen, himself when MTV caught up with him at this year's Toronto International Film Festival while promoting his new film "The Boys Are Back".

Asked whether a sequel is indeed in the horizon, the 44-year-old quickly responded, "I'm hearing it might be next year," before adding, "I heard that from a very good source...recently." Pressed further from whom he heard the news, the leading man of "The International" coyly suggested that he may hear it from either Frank Miller or Robert Rodriguez.

'Sin City 2' Could Be a Prequel

"Sin City" actress Alexis Bledel has acknowledged the script for "Sin City 2" is completed and claimed that the movie is going to be a prequel. Talking to MTV News, the 27-year-old believes that the second movie could be a prequel after she found out that her character will make a return in the sequel.

"I don't know what their source was, but they said they read the second script," Bledel first addressed on the saying that the script for the sequel has been finished. The actress who plays a young prostitute named Becky then added, "Apparently, [I'm] back because it's a prequel. Because [I'm] supposed to die in the first one. But you don't see it, so maybe she doesn't."

Although it has been debunked, rumor that The Weinstein Company (TWC)'s Dimension Films have lost the rights to "Sin City 2" could be true after all. In what may be the indication of the truth in the rumor, The Hollywood Reporter (THR) has come up with a scoop that the sequel rights to Frank Miller's "Sin City" are being shopped around Hollywood.

In its report on the matter, THR mentioned that Hollywood producers have been shopped the rights by representatives for Frank Miller's estate. Additionally, it claimed that the producers said the Miller's estate is indeed looking for a new place to set up a potential follow-up. Still, THR also reported that on Wednesday, April 22, TWC stood by their previously released statement.

Angelina Jolie Could Be Stepping Closer to 'Sin City 2'

While she has mentioned her doubt on nailing a role in "Sin City 2" earlier, Angelina Jolie is reported to be one step closer to join the cast ensemble of the "Sin City" sequel. Moviehole reported a rather high-profile producer friend has claimed that the "Wanted (2008)" star is in "serious talks" to star in the movie.

The 33-year-old actress has long been linked to the sequel project which is said to be the adaptation of "A Dame to Kill For". If she is indeed tapped as one of the cast members, Jolie is likely to take on the role of Ava Lord, the former flame of Dwight McCarthy and will star opposite Clive Owen since he is "loosely attached" to reprise his role as McCarthy.

An interesting scoop suggesting that "Sin City 2" is no longer a Weinstein Company project has broken to the surface. Coming up with the report is IESB which claimed that the production company has lost the rights to the sequel of Frank Miller's "Sin City".

While noting that details on the matter remain sketchy, the site made note that the follow-up movie will now be financed by a private equity group with announcement coming out soon. Universal Pictures have been rumored to be potential contender to be this film's distributor, though no words have been shared of it.

The sequel of "Sin City" could fall into production in Spring 2009. While doing the publicity for her upcoming drama "Seven Pounds", Rosario Dawson let out confirmation to IESB that the script of "Sin City 2" has been completed and the production is eyed to be kicked off sometime in April 2009.

What the 29-year-old suggested was similar to those said by director/screenwriter Frank Miller earlier. "Sin City 2 is written," Miller told IGN on December 4 at "The Spirit" junket. "It's mainly a matter of working out the details of the production. I'm hoping to do it with Robert Rodriguez again in the same circumstances that we did the first one, and we could be shooting as soon as April."

While Frank Miller was in Rome to introduce Will Eisner's comic strip adaptation "The Spirit", he got the chance to speak out a little bit about his other project "Sin City 2". Though refusing to spoil any details on the "Sin City" sequel, he revealed to BadTaste.it that the project is close to be started.

In a Q&A session, he said, "I cant' talk about my projects, because I don't believe a movie is real until I see the title on the screen. There are many things that can go wrong." Two years have passed, but the rumor has yet being thrown out of the picture or being confirmed. Now, the actress has come forward addressing the matter.

In an interview with MTV for her latest action movie co-starring James McAvoy, "Wanted (2008)", the life partner of Brad Pitt opened up about the rumor stating that filmmaker Frank Miller wanted her to play the role of Dwight McCarthy's former lover, Ava Lord. On the occasion, when asked whether she is up for the role, the 33-year-old confessed that she still hasn't made any decision on it. "I don't know," the star of "Beowulf" stated. "I found the first "Sin City" impressive, but I don't know what they're going to do with the next one to make [it] as original as the first one. I'd be curious. I think he's a genius."

Looks like it will require some times more to see "Sin City 2" in theaters.

In a new interview with Rotten Tomatoes, writer/co-director Frank Miller has pointed out that though the project is basically still on, he and fellow helmer Robert Rodriguez will work on other projects separately first instead.

In related news, the project's star Rosario Dawson also confirmed to IESB.net at this year's ShoWest that filming on the movie would be commenced in June while adding that it indeed would be based on "A Dame to Kill For", the second compilation of the original comic book series. The rumor on the street is that Hollywood babe Angelina Jolie has met with Roger Rodriguez, the director of "Sin City," for a possible role in the sequel "Sin City 2". The sexy actress reportedly will fill in the part of Owen Wilson's Dwight's fiancee Ava.

Based on the 1993 compilation "A Dame To Kill For", the sequel follows the story of Dwight who is contacted by former fiancee Ava who left him years back for a rich suitor. Though her presence seems like a blessing to Dwight, there's no angel in Sin City, and Dwight might be in deeper than he thinks.
