Lineup Announced for 19th Palm Springs Film Festival

Assembling the slate for the 2008 edition of the annually-held event, Palm Springs Film Festival organizers have selected 222 film titles from over sixty countries to be screened during the festival's run on January 3-14, 2008.

"We've streamlined the Festival line-up this year, trimming the overall numbers while adding some exciting new features and showcases," Festival Director Darryl Macdonald remarked. "The result is a richer and more focused event that maintains the Festival's concentration on quality international programming, while highlighting the diversity of its offerings in a more accessible, audience-friendly way."

Proving the directing knack actor Richard Roxburgh turns out to possess within, drama flick "" triumphantly landed the top prize of best picture at this year's Australian Film Institute Awards, the Australian equivalent to the American Academy Awards.

During the ceremony held Thursday, December 6 at Melbourne Exhibition Centre, the memoir-based feature also led its three stars , Marton Csokas, and Kodi Smit-McPhee to collect other prestigious honors. Bana, who also took home News Limited Readers' Choice Award, was bestowed that of Best Lead Actor while Csokas and Smit-McPhee nabbing Best Supporting Actor title and Young Actor Award, respectively.

More film features are getting included in the growing list of movies to be screened at this year's Toronto International Film Festival with the new announcement coming from the event's organizers on Thursday, July 5.

Making its way to join the lineup is David Auburn's drama "" which centers on a mother traumatized by the disappearance of her 3-year-old daughter who later takes a troubled girl under her wing. Pic reportedly will be shown in the Special Presentations slot alongside "" and "", the feature directorial debut of actress Helen Hunt.

Aussie actor has signed on to star in an adaptation of Raimond Gaitas' award-winning memoir "." The film tells the story of a young boy and his father struggling to build a relationship with one another after the death his mother, while starting a new life in a hostile country. Appointed to direct is Aussie thesp Richard Roxburgh, with Nick Drake wrote the script.

Bana is currently at work on Steven Spielberg's "" opening December 23rd and also has Curtis Hanson's "" scheduled for next year.
