Rocky Joins 2006 National Film Registry

In order to preserve films that are "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant from disappearing forever, the National Film Registry has chosen 25 more films to be preserved for all time. They are bringing the film preservation list to have total number of 450 films since it began in 1989.

Rocky, the Oscar winner for best picture of 1976, joined Mel Brooks' outrageous comedy Blazing Saddles (1974), John Carpenter's slasher classic Halloween (1978), the Coen brothers' black comedy Fargo (1996) and Steven Soderbergh's groundbreaking "sex, lies, and videotape" (1989) on this year's selection of treasures that are guaranteed to be preserved forever.

Milo Ventimiglia has inked the deal and so he's going to portray Rocky Balboa Jr., the adult son of Sylvester Stallone's character in the upcoming "Rocky Balboa," the sixth installment of the feature franchise about the mythic Philadelphia boxer.

In the film, lonely and retired boxer Rocky Balboa comes out of retirement, intending to fight a few low-profile local fights just to keep his hand in. But when he's approached to fight a match with reigning heavyweight champ Mason "The Line" Dixon, Rocky's modest little comeback becomes the center of a media firestorm.

Sylvester Stallone already confirmed he's going to reprise his role in the highly anticipated "Rocky VI." However, the legendary boxing champion Rocky Balboa won't fight alone. He will have to face a tough rival. Who is he? It's heavyweight champion Mason Dixon.

As Stallone is about to portray Balboa, the question is who's going to play the challenger's role? Just now, it's reported that light heavyweight king Antonio Tarver informed Boxingtalk.com that his representatives are in final negotiations for a deal that would result in his getting the role of Mason Dixon in the film.
