The 2007 Berlinale's Competition Section Completed
January 24, 2007 02:01:50Drawing near to the opening day of the 57th Annual Berlin International Film Festival, the organizers of the event at last have finalized selecting titles for the event's Competition program this year. Out of twenty-six films screened, twenty-two are being listed as Golden Bear Award contenders with seventeen of them encountering world premieres and five facing international premieres.
Apart from the previously-reported titles, there are nine other movies set up for world premieres, namely "Angel" (France/Belgium/U.K.), "Beaufort" (Israel), "Desert Dream" (Korea/France), "Hallam Foe" (U.K.), "The Other" (Argentina/France/Germany), "When a Man Falls in the Forest" (Canada/U.S.), "La Vie en Rose" (France/U.K./Czech Republic), plus "Lost in Beijing" and "Tuya's Marriage" which both come from China.

No Brent Spiner in "Star Trek XI"
September 12, 2006 04:09:34A surprising remark has been made by Brent Spiner concerning his involvement in the high-anticipated movie "Star Trek XI." The actor, who has played Data in numerous "Star Trek" installments, has decided to not take part in the project, announcing it as the franchise celebrated its 40th anniversary last Friday, September 8.
"I don't think I should play Data anymore. I think I'm too old to play him anymore to be honest, " so he said. "I think it would look stupid putting that make-up on me at this point. There certain characters that I think work in a youthful way and I think I really skated along the edge in the last couple movies as it was."

Box Office Winners for December 9 - 11 Period
December 12, 2005 11:12:04Taking in $67 million from its ticket sales, the new release adventure fantasy "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" successfully wins the top position on the box office for the period of December 9 -11. With such attainment, the film based on the popular children's books by C.S. Lewis has become the second-biggest debut ever in a weekend in December.
Winning the 2nd position is "Syriana," an oil-and-politics thriller, scoring $12 million. No. 3 is "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" with $10.3 million, one place ahead of "Walk the Line" at 4th with $77 million, surpassing "Yours, Mine and Ours" at 5th with $5.2 million. Meanwhile, "Aeon Flux" only takes in $4.6 million in its second week to debut at 6th, followed by "Just Friends" at 7th with $3.9 million.

The spell spoken by the witch still has its power over others that "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" gloriously dominates the box office for the third straight weekend with $20.4 million. Meanwhile, "Aeon Flux" only scores $13.1 million, to debut at No. 2.
The No. 3 movie for this weekend is "Walk the Line" with $10 million, followed behind by "Yours, Mine and Ours" at 4th with $8.4 million and "Just Friends" at 5th with $5.9 million. Securing the 6th position in the box office is "Pride and Prejudice," which scores $4.62 million, ahead of "Rent" at 7th with $4.6 million.

November 28, 2005 10:11:29Thanksgiving celebrations bring another luck for Harry Potter. The witch again charms his fans with his spell, topping US box office for the second time. Scoring another $19.7 million, "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" leads the box office racing for November 25-27 period.
Meanwhile, the Johnny Cash film biography "Walk the Line" stays in 2nd place with $19.7 million, ahead of new comer "Yours, Mine and Ours" at 3rd with $17.5 million. The animated tale "Chicken Little" holds up strongly at No. 4 with $12.4 million, followed behind at No. 5 by "Rent," which scores $10.7 million.
