Jake Gyllenhaal and Gemma Arterton Up for 'Prince of Persia'
May 21, 2008 03:05:57Answering to the earlier speculation about the offering of "Prince of Persia" to the Hollywood leading actor Jake Gyllenhaal, it is now confirmed that the "Jarhead" star will be the Persian prince in the video game adaptation movie "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time". Joining the 27-year-old in the cast ensemble is the "Quantum of Solace" actress Gemma Arterton.
In the movie, the co-star of Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" will be taking the role of Dastan, while the "St. Trinian's" star will portray the feisty princess Tamina. Together, they will team up with "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" helmer Mike Newell to bring the live action movie to the big screen using the script from Doug Miro, Carlo Bernard, Boaz Yakin and Jordan Mechner.

According to Latino Review, the "Jarhead" actor Jake Gyllenhaal has been offered with the role of Dastan in the Walt Disney Pictures' movie project.
Review claimed that they got the scoop about the co-star of Heath Ledger in "Brokeback Mountain" from multiple Hollywood sources. Despite stating that Gyllenhaal is fit for the role which requires a lot of physical stunts, the site further suggested that it is likely that Disney may not hire the actor since he hurt his ankle earlier. Still, there are no words coming from either Disney or Gyllenhaal's camp regarding the new rumor.

However, the speculations apparently held no truth at all as they were quickly being slammed down by Walt Disney Pictures.
It is explained in the latest reports regarding the rumors that when asked for the confirmation about the circulating gossip, Disney have stated that the story is a false one. According to Cinema Blend, their Disney contact has rejected the casting story stating, "I can assure you that there is absolutely no truth to the rumors that have circulated today with regards to Orlando Bloom."

March 08, 2008 12:03:34The Walt Disney Pictures' film "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time" has signed the "Love in the Time of Cholera" and "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire" helmer Mike Newell. According to reports, the 65-year-old British director has been set to shoot the video game adaptation movie in a North African country, Morocco.
The report has been let out by Dune Films company on Wednesday, March 5. Concerning the filming location, Jimmy Abounouom, the Dune Films' representative for the Moroccan shoot, stated, "Producers are always looking for cheap places to shoot and Morocco is one of them." Further, he revealed that the Moroccan filming is expected to start in mid-June.

Confirmation on the British filmmaker's involvement in the project came from producer Jerry Bruckheimer's mouth during a "National Treasure: Book of Secrets" junket held on Monday, December 3, 2007.
"We hired a very interesting director - Mike Newell - who did one of the Harry Potter's and also did Donnie Brasco and he's a very inventive, ingenious director and I think he's going to bring something really special to it," so Bruckheimer told Collider.com. "We have a screenplay, we're just starting to develop the look of it. It'll be unique and fresh."

Yes, the action filmmaker is reported by IESB.net to have assumed helming duties for "Prince of Persia: Sands of Time", an adaptation of Ubisoft's popular third-person action adventure video game of the same name.
Developed under Walt Disney Pictures banner for a 2009 release, the movie is said to take some elements from the game to use them in building a new story in the vein of "Pirates of the Caribbean" film installments. It is expected to be the next big screen project of Bay after his highly anticipated feature "Transformers", which is set to hit theaters on July 4 this year.
