Story

In 1970s suburbia, Maggie and her younger siblings spend the night telling each other stories in the attic. Downstairs, as their parents entertain guests over the course of a gin-soaked evening, truths are unearthed and betrayals come to light. With standout performances from John Hawkes, Molly Parker, and a cast of talented young actors, Julia Dyer's second feature is an honest and challenging look at the reality behind the facade of a seemingly perfect American family.

REVIEWS BY CRITICS

“..unlike the dysfunctional one depicted onscreen, this family unit works together perfectly..”
by Frank Scheck [Hollywood Reporter]
“..The Playroom feels like an excuse to explore this retro house from a child's point of view-which is perfectly okay, provided no one breaks the spell by talking..”
by Noel Murray [A.V. Club]
“..a funny, sad, and ultimately redemptive story of a single evening in the lives of four brilliant children neglected by self-absorbed parents..”
by Chris Packham [Village Voice]
