Animated Persepolis Awarded 2007 London Film Fest's BFI Sutherland Trophy
November 03, 2007 11:11:53Recognized to be the most original and imaginative debut feature screened at this year's Times BFI London Film Festival, animated flick "Persepolis" was granted the BFI Sutherland Trophy on Thursday, November 1, 2007.
Announcement was made during the closing-night gala of the 51st edition of the festival held at London's Odeon Cinema in Leicester Square. The honor then got presented by member of the jury Natalie Press to Candy Vincent-Smith from Optimum Releasing on behalf of directors Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi who both were unable to attend the presentation.

Duo Breaks Into "Persepolis"
July 12, 2007 02:07:19Ready to give major contribution for the flick, Sean Penn and Iggy Pop have both enlisted themselves in the voice cast of the English-language version of "Persepolis", Sony Picture Classics' animated feature adapted from the Marjane Satrapi autobiographical, bestselling graphic novel.
Joining the already-announced Gena Rowlands and Catherine Deneuve also Deneuve's daughter Chiara Mastroianni who is set to reprise her part in voicing the lead character of Satrapi, Penn reportedly will fill in the voice of Satrapi's long-suffering father while Pop that of the young girl's rebellious and politically active uncle.

May 28, 2007 03:05:58A humorous yet moving story of a precocious and outspoken young Iranian girl growing up during and after her country's 1979 Islamic Revolution, "Persepolis" triumphantly landed an honor at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival as the nine-member jury headed by British filmmaker Stephen Frears announced the event's winners on Sunday, May 27.
Written and directed by Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi based on the latter's graphic novels, the animated feature was awarded the Jury Prize which it shared with "Stellet Licht" ("Silent Light"), Carlos Reygadas' tale of forbidden love set among Mennonite farmers of northern Mexico.

Catherine Deneuve and Gena Rowlands Enter "Persepolis"
November 04, 2006 09:11:13Set to work hand in hand, French actress Catherine Deneuve and "The Skeleton Key" star Gena Rowlands have both agreed to lend their voices in the English-language version of the French animated film feature "Persepolis."
Taking the same duty as she did in the original version, Deneuve is billed to voice the lead character's mother while Rowlands will voice her grandmother. Vincent Paronnaud and Marjane Satrapi have been in charge to both write and direct with Xavier Rigault and Marc-Antoine Rob producing.
