Full List of the 2007 British Independent Film Awards Winners
November 29, 2007 09:11:24No big surprise came out from the gala ceremony of this year's British Independent Film Awards as the organizers celebrated it for the tenth time Wednesday, November 28, 2007 at London's Roundhouse.
Top contender "Control", as presumed, became the big winner with five kudos in total, most notably top prize Best British Independent Film. Helmer Anton Corbjin took home two others of Best Director and the Douglas Hickox Award for Best Debut Director. The rest went to leading actor Sam Riley and co-star Toby Kebbell who were named Most Promising Newcomer and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.

October 24, 2007 04:10:41Once again celebrating the achievement in independently funded British movies, organizers of the British Independent Film Awards have smoothly rolled down the list of eligible titles and names to vie for the honors in the event's tenth anniversary.
Leading the pack is biographical feature "Control" as it remarkably took ten nods in total, most notably that of Best British Independent Film. To win the prize, pic, however, faces tough competition from the likes of "And When Did You Last See Your Father?", "Notes on a Scandal", "Hallam Foe", and "Eastern Promises."

The 34th Annual Evening Standard British Film Awards Recipients
February 05, 2007 02:02:48Surprises marked the ceremony of this year's Evening Standard British Film Awards as the London's afternoon newspaper held the annual event yesterday, February 3 at the Savoy Hotel in London.
Making a rather different pick with other film critics', the award jury named Daniel Craig of "Casino Royale" the Best Actor while deeming Judi Dench of "Notes on a Scandal" the Best Actrees, ignoring Oscar favorite Helen Mirren who has already received numerous accolades for her performance in "The Queen."

The 19th USC Libraries Scripter Award Contenders Unveiled
January 06, 2007 12:01:43The only institution that recognizes both the authors and screenwriters of a book-based film feature, the University of Southern California Libraries has revealed names running for its USC Libraries Scripter Award this year. Given annually, the prize honors writers for the best achievement in adaptation among English-language pictures released during the previous year and based on a book, novella, or short story.
Selected out of forty-five eligible films, there are five author-screenwriter teams that made their way to the competition. Listed in alphabetical order by film title, they are those behind "Children of Men", "The Devil Wears Prada", "The Illusionist", "The Last King of Scotland", and "Notes on a Scandal."

Honorees Announced at the 2006 DFWFCA Awards
December 22, 2006 12:12:07Taking the same pick as two other film critics organizations, NYFCC and WAFCA, the Dallas-Fort Worth Film Critics Association (DFWFCA) delightfully labeled the 9/11 gripping drama "United 93" the Best Film of 2006 as the 35 online, broadcast, and print members unveiled the winners of its DFWFCA Awards on Monday, December 18, 2006.
For other film categories, the association willingly named "Letters from Iwo Jima" as the Best Foreign Language Film and "An Inconvenient Truth" as the Best Documentary with "Happy Feet" being deemed the Best Animated Film and "Half Nelson" getting mentioned as the Russell Smith Award recipient in its recognition for best low-budget or cutting-edge independent film.

Winners at the 2006 Toronto Film Critics Association Awards

Repeating the achievement it scored at NYFCO Awards held earlier this month, the British royal drama feature triumphantly swept most honors from The Toronto Film Critics Association as the organization handed on its TFCA Awards yesterday, December 19, 2006.
The Miramax release won five categories altogether for those of Best Picture, Best Performance - Female for Helen Mirren, Best Screenplay for Peter Morgan, Best Supporting Performance - Male for Michael Sheen, and Best Director for Stephen Frears, who shared the honor with "L'Enfant" helmers Luc and Jean-Pierre Dardenne.

December 18, 2006 12:12:14One of the five sections of The Critics' Circle started in 1913 as an association for working British critics, the London Film Critics' Circle has revealed the list of film titles and names competing for its ALFS Awards, which will be presented on February 8, 2007 at the Dorchester Hotel, London.
As many have expected, Miramax's acclaimed British royal family drama "The Queen" became the most-nominated feature for the event, scoring down seven nods that included top honor Best Film of the Year alongside four other lauded features namely "United 93", "Little Miss Sunshine", "The Departed" and "Volver."

The 12th Annual Critics' Choice Awards Contenders
December 13, 2006 10:12:36The largest critics' organization in U.S and Canada, the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA) revealed yesterday, December 12, the nominees of its Critics' Choice Awards to compete for being the best as it holds the ceremony on January 12 at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium.
"Dreamgirls", "Babel", "The Departed", and "Little Miss Sunshine" scored most nominations with seven nods apiece, including that for Best Picture. Those four were joined by six other movies in the category namely "Blood Diamond", "Little Children", "Notes on a Scandal", "The Queen", "Letters From Iwo Jima", and "United 93", the latter two already snatching two film awards each.
