'Monsters, Inc. 2' May Not Be in Production

Although there is wild rumor of "Monsters, Inc. 2" being in development, Peter Docter has hinted that the film is currently not in the works. In a recent interview with New York Magazine, the director of "Monsters, Inc." who has been attached to make the sequel claimed he is not producing the said project.

"I'm not working on [it]," Docter stated when asked whether or not he has been focusing on "Monsters, Inc. 2" after finishing "Up". Instead, the helmer said he has another project which has been kept under wraps. "I'm working on something else, but I cannot announce what it is," he said.

Speculation of Disney/Pixar developing "Monsters, Inc. 2" could be a true one after all. According to Jim Hill Media, the studio have unraveled to buyers in attendance at Licensing International Expo 2009 about their plan in following up their recent hit animation "Up" with another "Monsters, Inc." movie .

Revealing that the information should have been a confidential one since the buyers were first sworn to secrecy by Disney officials, Hill claimed that several of them reached out to him to share the news. They furthermore suggested that "Up" director Pete Docter will be involved in the sequel project. Still, details on few other details have yet to be disclosed.

"Monsters, Inc. 2" is reportedly in the works. Recently, BlueSky Disney has come up with a story that director Pete Docter has been given the go-ahead by Pixar to work on the sequel project, and revealed also that the director will start working on it soon after he finishes the studio's upcoming animation, "Up".

While BlueSky didn't share further details about this "Monsters, Inc" sequel, it claimed that the possible sequel is tentatively planned for release in 2013. Despite the fact that these new updates have yet to be confirmed by either Docter or Pixar Studios, Docter has hinted at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con that ideas for possible sequel have been thought about. "We've thought about it," he shared to MTV. "We've got a couple ideas."

'Monsters, Inc.' Sequel Being Developed?

"Monsters, Inc." is one of Pixar's successful animation feature films garnering generally positive reviews and pulling in over $525.4 million worldwide. Following the fact that both "Toy Story" and "Cars" are getting a sequel treatment with "Toy Story 3" and "Cars 2" respectively, one thing left to do for Pixar is to develop its sequel and it seems that it is indeed what the filmmakers have in mind.

Contrary to Brad Bird's earlier remark that Pixar were not in the sequel business, director Peter Docter hinted that the filmmakers behind "Monsters, Inc." have some thought about the possible sequel, "Monsters, Inc. 2". Revealing the info to MTV News at the 2008 San Diego Comic Con, the script writer of "WALL-E" confessed, "We've thought about it. We've got a couple ideas." Still, Docter remains mum about further details on the sequel story.
