"Meg" No Longer Under New Line's Care
July 06, 2007 04:07:55Giving up on bringing "Meg", its adaptation of the Steve Alten book series, to the surface, New Line Cinema has shockingly made a decision to let go the project out of its pit, the author itself has stated in his newsletter.
"The key execs at New Line always treated MEG like an unwanted stepchild, and now, with my option set to expire in October, the[y] decided NOT to proceed," Alten confirmed.

January 04, 2007 09:01:27Getting stalled for awhile as it failed to meet a 2006 release as planned, New Line Cinema's prehistoric shark tale "Meg" delightfully has landed a second chance to get developed. Variety has learned that the project may finally move forward this year with an aim to be filmed in spring for a summer 2008 release, at the earliest.
Based on the Steve Alten's book series, the picture originally was under Disney before its rights went to New Line in 2005. It initially was intended to be made for $75 million, but when the estimated budget came in much higher, mostly due to the f/x, the latter studio decided to put the movie on hold.

i never read this book but i have read steve aldens the loch and i would love to see them make that into a movie,really want to see this movie we dont get enough really good creature features like animals,creatures,and dinosaurs,these type of movies if done right are cash cows.keep them coming.
