'Madagascar' Sequel to Get Renamed?
March 11, 2008 12:03:52The sequel to DreamWorks' animated film "Madagascar", "Madagascar: The Crate Escape", may undergo title change as Trademork.com reported. An article from the site suggested that the title will be altered into "Madagascar Escape 2 Africa" citing that DreamWorks has filed trademark protection for the so-called new title.
The site claimed that the studio have filed for the possibly new title trademark cornering the release of the film in theaters and in television. The article read, "On March 3, 2008, Dreamworks Animation filed to protect the trademark Madagascar Escape 2 Africa in relation to 'animated motion picture films for theatrical release and for distribution via television' as well as a variety of goods and services related to Dreamworks' Madagascar franchise."

10 Animated Films Fight for Oscar Nod

Included in the list among others are "Chicken Little," "Gulliver's Travel," "Hoodwinked," "Howl's Moving Castle," "Madagascar," "Robots," "Steamboy," "Corpse Bride," "Valiant," and "Wallace & Gromit: The Curse of the Were-Rabbit."

Madagascar Scores Internationally
September 06, 2005 09:09:39No longer included in the row of box office movies, "Madagascar" scores internationally, grossed $12.5 million from 47 territories. With six new openings, which brought the international total to $291.5 million, "Madagascar" even taking in $7.1 million in Italy, becoming the biggest CGI-animated opening ever in the country.
Meanwhile, "The 40 Year Old Virgin" tops in UK, whereas "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" scores in Australia, and "Bewitched" has its way in Germany and Spain.

"Madagascar" Rules Foreign Box Office
July 19, 2005 11:07:30Though the DreamWorks cartoon "Madagascar" doesn't secure No. 1 at this weekend box office, still it astoundingly rules foreign box office with its highest weekend total to date grossed $31 million from 40 territories. In details, "Madagascar" opened to $9.7 million in the U.K. and $8.2 million in German market. In the meantime, in Austria it led with $1.1 million, $1.4 million in Taiwan, and about $1 million in Hong Kong.
Also scored at the international box office is the movie "War of the Worlds" which was grossed about $30 million, raising its total to $256.5 million. Along with both there is Fox's "Fantastic Four," earning an estimated $20.1 million. Some other projects scored at the international box office, including "Star Wars: Episode III -- Revenge of the Sith," "The Adventures of Sharkboy and Lavagirl in 3-D," "Herbie: Fully Loaded," "Land of the Dead," and "Bewitched."

"Madagascar" Goes Wild
June 06, 2005 10:06:48The cartoon has gone wild. Racking up $28.7 million in its second weekend, "Madagascar" moves from second to the top of this weekend's box office. Also moving up is "The Longest Yard," which earns an estimated $26.1 million in its second week. Both champions move their way up against their contender "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" which is taking in $26 million in its third weekend, remains the third.
This week's newcomer "Cinderella Man" is placed at fourth with only $18.6 million, while the also new comer "The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants" goes to fifth with $10.2 million. At 6th to 10th in a row are "Lords of Dogtown," $5.7 million; "Monster-in-Law," $5.3 million; "Crash," $3.3 million; "Kicking & Screaming," $2.1 million; and "Unleashed," $900,000.
