It appears that the joy is short-lived.

In contrast to a delightful report from Variety few days ago stating that Ang Lee is on board to helm "A Little Game Without Consequence", an assistant to the Oscar-winning filmmaker has said otherwise to Taiwan media. Claiming the report is not true, the person strongly pointed out that Lee hasn't even been offered the position.

Things now look brighter for Focus Features' "A Little Game Without Consequence" after it got imploded for months due to the departure of helmer Gabriele Muccino also stars Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz, many thanks to Ang Lee.

Yes, the renowned filmmaker has accepted the offer to direct the drama comedy from Focus co-chairman James Schamus and is expected to work on the flick after the wrapping-up of "Lust, Caution." Schamus in the meantime reportedly will take a stab at rewriting the script, originally penned by Allan Loeb.

The game sadly has bitter consequence this time. The Hollywood Reporter has shockingly revealed that Focus Features' "A Little Game Without Consequence" won't see the reunion between Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz as the pair has decided to quit the project along with director Gabriele Muccino.

Principal reason behind the departure is said to be because of problems over the script that has gone in a different direction than the twosome expected when they became involved. Both Carrey and Diaz initially were slated to begin filming the picture this month in New York, but with this withdrawal, all production plans are automatically scrapped.

It's been more than 10 years since audience saw Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz setting up a great team in "The Mask" (1994). Now greet them once more, folks, for they are about to make a reunion. Yes, the twosome has been confirmed to share the screen together for the second time in "A Little Game Without Consequence", a new film project from Focus Features.

Based on the French play written by Jean Dell and Gerald Sibleyras, "Consequence" takes a look on a seemingly perfect couple who realize that their friends never liked them as couple to begin with after they pretend to break up. A big screen adaptation of the play has actually been made for French production in 2004.
