Helen Mirren's 'The Last Station' Drops Official Trailer
November 25, 2009 04:11:32A devoted wife and passionate lover of fifty years is suddenly abandoned by her husband when he opts to regress to poverty, vegetarianism and celibacy. A potential Oscar contender, "The Last Station" has just got its first trailer that gives a preview at how Countess Sofya is frustrated with the changes her husband makes.
The epic drama is adapted from Jay Parini's novel of the same name about famous author Leo Tolstoy. During their marriage, Sofya has copied out "War and Peace" six times by hand and thus she flips out upon knowing that Tolstoy is encouraged to sign a new will that gives his inheritance to Russia instead of his family.

Replacing Meryl Streep, Helen Mirren to Topline 'Last Station'
April 01, 2008 03:04:04Helen Mirren, the English actress who earned herself an Academy Award prize for her portrayal of Queen Elizabeth II in "The Queen", has been signed in for the upcoming biopic "The Last Station" to take over another acclaimed actress' role. According to Variety, the 62-year-old actress will be playing Leo Tolstoy's wife Sophia, a role once belonged to Meryl Streep.
By replacing Streep, the "Elizabeth I" star will be joining the other cast that include James McAvoy, Anne-Marie Duff and Paul Giamatti. In the project, she would star opposite Christopher Plummer, who replaced Anthony Hopkins in portraying Tolstoy. The notable actress is expected to join the filming which will begin on April 7.

Stars Arriving on "Last Station"
June 29, 2006 12:06:21"The Last Station" probably won't be the last destination moviegoers head for if they put their priority on seeing Anthony Hopkins, Meryl Streep, and Paul Giamatti sharing the screen together. Production Weekly has reported that the three stars have given their agreement to join forces in this latest project of Michael Hoffman, an adaptation of Jay Parini's novel of the same title.
All lauded thespians in Hollywood, Hopkins was last seen in "The World's Fastest Indian" while Streep in "A Prairie Home Companion" which still circulates around U.S theatres and Giamatti in "Cinderella Man" as manager also good friend of Russell Crowe's Jim Braddock. Meanwhile, Hoffman has been known for his directorial works in "Restoration" (1995) and "A Midsummer Night's Dream" (1999) among others.
