'La Vie en Rose' Star Crowned Best Actress at 2008 Oscar
February 25, 2008 10:02:40Following the announcement of the Best Sound Editing which went to the action film "The Bourne Ultimatum", it was announced that the star of the French biopic "La Vie en Rose" Marion Cotillard has been honored with her first Academy Award. At the 80th Annual Academy Awards' ceremony at the Kodak Theater on Sunday, February 24, the 32-year-old actress received the prestigious Best Actress prize.
The actress who earlier was named Cesar's Best Actress got the kudo for her brilliant portrayal of the French songstress Edith Piaf in "Rose". Cotillard was presented with her prize by last year's Best Actor winner Forest Whitaker. Besting over Cate Blanchett, Julie Christie, Laura Linney and Ellen Page, the thrilled actress praised "Rose" helmer Olivier Dahan for "rocking" her life, saying, "Maestro Olivier, you rocked my life. Bringing Home Most Awards, 'La Vie en Rose' Failed to Nab Cesar's Best Film
February 23, 2008 09:02:08Nominated for 11 Cesar Awards categories, acclaimed biopic drama "La Vie en Rose" didn't managed to make clean sweep at the winner announcement ceremony held on Friday, February 22 at the Theatre du Chatelet in Paris. Though able to bring home most of the awards given out that night, the Oliver Dahan-directed film only won five awards from the overall twenty prizes.
What made it even more disappointing, the film based on the life of French singer Edith Piaf has to let go the top prize of Best Film as well as the kudo for Best Director to its contender "The Secret of the Grain". Still, the film got its consolation prize when its leading actress Marion Cotillard who is also up for the 80th Academy Award - Best Actress nailed the coveted Best Actress kudo. Further, aside from getting the Best Actress award, the Picturehouse Entertainment's film also brought home four other prizes, that is, Best Sound, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction and Best Costume Design.
