Also, the bible does support there r such things as life on other planets. For those who believe, this planet was the first planet to have life made in the image of God. Implying there is life, but they don't look like us. Also that, since we are the only world with sin, we are a spectical to the universe. I believe both exist =]

I rele liked this movie, from the good proportion of action, to the details like the rabbits. The rabbits symbolize fertility, the angles/aliens gave them to the children because they intended them to reproduce to keep the human race alive. Still have a few questions y they included some things but the symbolism was interesting to me. And I liked that the four horsemen-like characters were included too. There's a thin line between religion and science a lot of ppl see or don't see. Both r based on theory and both have ppl fighting saying they r right. Y can't angels be aliens and vice versa? Maybe they are real and we named them angels and created religion around the idea of a superior being, God. Or maybe its the other way around, maybe there rele is a being that sacrificed his son for humanity, maybe the soul does need salvation. The fact this movie doesn't rele comeout and say they're aliens in the end is a good thing. We all asume n we see wat we want to see, nothin wrong with that. Love that this movie makes the viewer think about wat they see, not jus watch the special effects. Very nice it had a balance of both tho.

Yes, cool premise. Yes, cool disaster scenes (some of the best I have seen thank you!), and yes creepy whisper people. But if they really wanted to go with the whole biblical ending, then what about the 144,000 people promised to be saved? (Ok, we have these huge freakin ships and all we have room for are these two small children...ha!) If anything, the movie illustrates how each of us has a time on this earth, and because no one can know exactly how and when their lives end, living each day to it's fullest and enjoying life and loved ones is the most important thing anyone can do throughout the course of their life. Even in death and catastrophe there exists creation.

I loved this movie and hated it at the same time. The whole time, just when you think the characters are headed down one path, another is chosen for them. The only things that ever upset me were the stupid decisions the characters made. Like, the mother taking the children and Nicholas cage leaving the kids in the car in a dark creepy forest when the creepy albino guys were after them. I was practically telling at the screen. I like the end for the most part, even though I was balling harder than a baby who just got his toy taken away. And for all the cynics who wrote above me, the "aliens" were actually angels (notice the wings as they ascend?) Just a new depiction of them. Not the traditional harps and long robes. And the boy did care, he didn't want to leave his dad but knew that it was what he had to do. This was all just a cool twist on Noah's ark and the end of the world. Though I do hope we aren't actually going to be burned to a crisp.

The movie itself had such an 'Oh God' ending. I loved it. It lets you know what is really important in life. It's the people you love. They are the only things that matter in the end. And, hopefully, you take it with you where ever you go.

I just watched this movie and thought it was entertaining. The special effects are great and the situation sincere... The plot is rather predictable, however, and the movie does come to a crashing end. The tree was a bit much, but I'm sure it was planted just in case someone didn't "get it".

best movie ever made (besides ET the extra terrestrial) i cant understand how anyone isnt moved by the last 20 minutes of this movie ive watched this movie now a few times and cant get enough of the last parts. by the way im not religious in the traditional way anyway. and whether you tie i religion to the end of this movie is up to you it can be interpritated anyway you want. It did however leave me with a few questions. was they indeeed aliens or angels. was the distruction of earth natural or influenced by some kind of intelligence because they wasnt happy with the way humanity was going, was the kids dropped on the new earth with all the memories of the old earth in which they had experienced or had their memories whiped. and did caleb get to keep the necklace? the visual effects of the aliens were amazing as was most of the film eccept the scene of the plane on fire, it did look kinda fake. anyway i really did love the movie. any fans who'd like to discuss this movie kane email me on kane2006@hotmail.co.uk. ok, I just saw the movie yesterday, and got to say (and differ to some) that it is excelent, not for its effects, though I admit they were best-class, or its great music, instead it is for its simbology, not merely religious (remember that "religion is the opium of societies"), it is esotheric and exotheric simbology, just as the bible is a astrology-esotheric book (investigate, a.e. "Zeitgeist"). And why can't cience and spirituality got 2gether? like angels beeing evolutioned"aliens" (look definition in dictionary) that can comunicate w/the Universal Consciency of the Creator of all things (called as you like to call Him) and came to save a well-valued form of life and help him to continue it evolution to the next step just as they did some centuries ago. (investigate the ancient cultures)

posted by PraetorFenix on Apr 06, 2009 04:08:31

LOL Excuse me? How are any of you taking this seriously? It was TERRIBLE! The ending had me laughing so much I almost got kicked out of the theater... The special effects were first-class though, as was the music. The end of the world sequence set to Beethoven's 7th was brilliant.

posted by Goggie on Apr 05, 2009 12:26:43

Aliens? They were ANGELS. And the reason the children were not traumatized by their departure from earth is because they knew they were headed for the afterlife where there is no pain and suffering - only God's love and our loved ones. Even the dad realized this at the end and was willing to give up his son. This film is a lot deeper than the usual end-of-the-world stuff. It's from a Biblical perspective and really poses some important question. Does life have meaning, or is it just a random jumble of circumstance and error? How you answer that question will shape your life and dictate your actions. It will also determine how you face the end of your life. This movie was intensly moving in places, tough to watch (the disaster scenes), and though-provoking. Some people may rail against the obvious spiritual theme of the movie...I hope they don't attempt to ridicule or minimize this as "Bible thumping" nonsense. Look past what annnoys you about YOUR experience with less-than-perfect but far-from-evil organized religion and think in terms of your spiritual well-being. That's what Nicholas Cage's character has to do in order to be at peace.

Thought this movie was excellent - stunning cinematics and acting was top-class. Interesting how people are reading into the religious element. In fact, the premise of the film is that there is no god, but rather our religious myths developed from a similar event in our own history, and that we're the next evolution of humans from yet another "Earth". So it uses Christian mythology, but argues that it results from alien influence on the development of mankind. As an atheist, I think that's great.

posted by BelgianGirl on Apr 02, 2009 08:58:32

What is with all the classifications? The ending fits *IF* taken for what it is. The rabbits were rabbits, and the un-socitial indoctrinated children were the future of man kind. The aliens were a means to an end.

It was lame and predictable. About a third of the way through the movie and I already guessed the plot twists and ending accurately. Boring. Cheesy. Formulaic. Overdone. Flat. Perhaps it would've been a touch better if a better actor than Nicolas Cage had the leading role. The only things I liked were the occasional pretty screenshots, the music, and the fact that Caleb had an audio-processing disorder and knew sign-language.

Yes the ending on the world is bad and we all die and rise from the ashes as predicted from the bible, so why do people give it a bad rating because its gloomy,, yes we are not alone. Great storyline and graphic depiction of death as some people shunaway from the real truth.

This movie does throw a curve ball at those who have not heard anything about the movie. Which is excellent in my opinion. Also if you think about the ending it makes total sense if you have read Chariots of the Gods and don't let your intolerance get the best of you the ending is really good.

Knowing has a really good plot up until the disapointing end. Could they not think of anything better than aliens that abduct children and rabbits. And worst of all Cage's child doesn't seem to be affected by the fact that he is living on another planet while is dad is burned to death by a massive solar flare. My 12 year old sister could have thought of a better ending. Overall 4 stars for the film apart from the ending. It would be 5 stars if the ending was better.

Knowing was quite entertaining. The beggining was good and the script was average but for some reason they decided to add in ALBINO ALIENS ABDUCTING CHILDREN AND WHITE RABBITS. I mean WTF it was good but they just ruined it the end. However i liked the special effects and explosions. It reminded me of final destination. Overall i would say if you have a spare 2 hours go and see it but only if you are in the mood for laughing at ridiculously over the top acting and terrible fake crying.

Loved the premise and the story treatment. I could have used another 20 minutes of development. Then it could have been a truly landmark film. However, any longer and a lot of the audience, those waiting for the explosions rather than plot development, would have been lost. The Angels were depicted as angels have always were been depicted, both terrible and wonderful...God's messengers and deed-doers in all below heaven.
