Movie Story
A contemporary fable with a touch of whimsy and magic realism reminiscent of Amelie. Mona Gray (Alba) has made her world as colorless as her name. Retreated from life, her only comfort, her salvation even, is in numbers. Mona can't stop doing math: she knocks on wood, adds her steps, and multiplies people in the park. She lives in a tiny world of her own construct, safe and alone. When Mona begins teaching math to second-graders, she finds a ready audience, but the difficult and wonderful facts of life keep intruding. She finds herself drawn to the new science teacher, who has an unnerving way of seeing through her intricately built facade. Mona learns that more important than trying to protect herself from a sometimes cruel world, is to actually connect and embrace all that is frightening and all that is wonderful.
