'21' Kicked Off 'Horton' From Box Office Throne
March 31, 2008 10:03:56The blackjack drama "21" has hit the jackpot at the three-days weekend North American box office, which ended Sunday, March 30, as the Columbia Pictures nailed the top spot and unseated the reigning champion "Horton Hears a Who!" from its #1 seat. According to an estimation made by Box Office Mojo, the Jim Sturgess and Kate Bosworth starring film has exceeded the studio expectation and opened big by grossing $24.1 million.
Said to be inspired by a true story, the film that tells about six MIT students who conspire to count cards at the blackjack tables to win millions in Las Vegas has reportedly appealed to the younger moviegoers as Box Office Mojo reported that 53% of the audience was under 25 years old. Further, the film also marked Bosworth and co-star Kevin Spacey's biggest theatrical opening since "Superman Returns" which debuted with $52.5 million.

'Horton' Still Hears Box Office Champion!
March 24, 2008 09:03:30The 20th Century Fox's animation "Horton Hears a Who!" still reigned supreme on the North American weekend box office on its second week previewing. According to studio estimates on Sunday, March 23, the film featuring the voices of comedians Jim Carrey and Steve Carell has taken in approximately $24.6 million and became the first film of the year to stay on top for two weeks straight.
Despite experiencing a 45.4% drop in sales if compared to last weekend, the film about an elephant who hears a cry of help from a speck of dust has pulled in the total of about $86 million. The Dr. Seuss' adapted movie also managed to stay on top though faced with new strong contenders, including Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" and Owen Wilson's "Drillbit Taylor".

Jim Carrey's 'Horton' Hears Box Office Success!
March 17, 2008 09:03:51The 20th Century Fox' comedy animation film "Horton Hears a Who!" opened up strong on the North American three-days weekend box office ended Sunday, March 16 as the film that teamed up comic actors, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, dominated the theatrical sales chart. According to Sunday's estimates done by Box Office Mojo, the movie adapted from Dr. Seuss' novel has pulled in $45 million during its opening weekend.
Aside from nailing the number one spot, "Horton" also successfully became the film with the biggest opening of the year so far breaking the previous record held by "Cloverfield" which brought in $40.1 million on its debut weekend. Further, though the movie exceeded the film industry expectation for its debut weekend, it still shied from the opening weekend successes landed by the 2000's Dr. Seuss' movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" that bowed in $55.1 million and by Carrey's other film "Bruce Almighty" that got $68 million.

'Ice Age 3' Teaser Hits Theaters With 'Horton'!

According to ComingSoon, the Carlos Saldanha-directed film is attached to another Fox's animation film "Horton Hears a Who!" which debuted on that day.
Reportedly, the teaser will once again feature Scrat, the Saber-toothed squirrel whose attempts in getting his beloved acorn often ended up in a disaster. This time, as he is still trying to get an acorn, the little pre-historic rodent ended up falling to a hole in the ice and encountering a T-Rex, which roars in front of his face.

Based on the 1954 book of the same name written by Dr. Seuss, pic boasts starry voice cast that includes Jim Carrey, Steve Carell, Isla Fisher, Dane Cook, and Jaime Pressly. It also marks the second time Carrey has ever played a Dr. Seuss character and the first movie of his that is animated as well as the first Dr. Seuss film to be fully computer-animated.

September 13, 2006 12:09:49This no doubt will make a great collaboration, really. Two terrific funnymen, Jim Carrey and Steve Carell, have given their agreement to team up in doing voice acting on "Horton Hears a Who", the new CG animated project coming from 20th Century Fox Animation.
Marking his first in bringing a CGI animated character to life, Carrey will voice the title character while Carell filling the voice of the mayor of Who-ville, a distinguished figure of a very small size who is too small to be seen by Horton's eyes.
