Halo Film Version Is Dead, Helmer Neill Blomkamp Claimed
October 06, 2007 12:10:31Since "Halo" was announced to be suspended last year, many sure have been waiting for any good news about the big screen adaptation of the popular game to get launched back into production. However, chance looks little to see it happen if looking from the statement made by one-time director Neill Blomkamp.
Talking about the movie to Creativity Online, Blomkamp, who made three short films for the recently-released "Halo 3", shockingly stated that the "film is entirely dead" and "whatever happens with that movie, assuming that movie gets made, will be a totally different configuration."

"At this time Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh, along with their partner, Microsoft, have mutually agreed to postpone making a feature film based on the Halo video game universe until we can fulfill the promise we made to millions of Halo fans throughout the world that we would settle for no less than bringing a first class film to the big screen," so the statement said.

Universal and Fox Release Grip on "Halo"

Variety learned that Universal Pictures and 20th Century Fox have both shockingly decided to quit co-financing the project, which is an adaptation of Microsoft's popular videogame of the same name.
Despite the rumor saying the studios getting concerned over the film's rising budget from its original $135 million, the filmmakers remarked instead that the double departure resulted after both companies unsuccessfully tried to get them as well as Microsoft to reduce their profit participation.

August 10, 2006 10:08:56The clouds surrounding "Halo" are finally cleared. The film's producer finally has found the right man to bring the project up to the surface in Neil Blomkamp. Previously handled visual effects on some TV programs like "Smallville" and "Dark Angel", Blomkamp therefore is making his directorial debut on the picture, which is based on the popular video game of the same title.
Hailed from South Africa, Blomkamp has also been known for his works in TV commercials as well as short films. One of the featured artists at the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes in 2004, he received three Clio Awards and a Visual Effects Society Award last year through Citroen-Alive with Technology TV ads.

As one of the Oscar-winning creative team behind the "The Lord of the Rings" films, the director has been named to run the production of "Halo," an upcoming film based on Microsoft Corp.'s blockbuster videogame of the same name. Alongside his wife, Fran Walsh, Jackson will serve as the executive producers, whose duty is giving creative input on all aspects of the film via their WingNut Films banner.
"Halo," which is set for a mid-2007 worldwide release, is an action, adventure, and sci-fi film. Will serve as the film producer is Peter Schlessel, joined by Universal heads of production Mary Parent and Scott Stuber. Elsewhere, Universal Pictures will oversee the film's production and domestic distribution, while Twentieth Century Fox will handle its international distribution.
