'Hairspray' Getting a Sequel Treatment
July 24, 2008 02:07:04Big news is coming to "Hairspray" fans. Considering that the 2007 musical film has become such a hit with its record opening sales of $27.5 million, the second highest opening sales for a musical after "Mamma Mia!", the Broadway musical adaptation is going to get a sequel treatment with "Hairspray 2".
The sequel report came out after New Line Cinema inked a deal with the film's creator John Waters signing him in to write down the script of the follow-up movie. The studio are also expecting director/choreographer Adam Shankman, producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, and Tony-winning songwriters Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman to come back and work on their magic on the second movie.

Announced by actors Jeanne Tripplehorn and Terrence Howard, the substantial labor union made surprising decision by hailing road movie "Into the Wild" as the top contender with four nods in total. Scoring the most was musical feature "Hairspray" for it saw star John Travolta take home the Hollywood Supporting Actor of the Year title with producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron accepting the Hollywood Producers of the Year Award. As part of the flick's cast, Travolta was also granted the Hollywood Ensemble Musical Comedy of the Year honor alongside other members like Zac Efron, Elijah Kelley, Brittany Snow, Amanda Bynes, and Nikki Blonsky.

January 26, 2006 03:01:20Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, producers of "Hairspray" and the Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning Best Picture "Chicago," announced Wednesday Jan 25th that New Line Cinema has launched a nationwide casting search to fill three roles in its upcoming feature film adaptation of the hit Broadway musical "Hairspray."
The casting search will be opened beginning from Feb 4th with an open call audition held in Atlanta on the campus of Georgia State University. Casting agents will on Feb. 11th hold an open call in New York at the Hilton Theatre Rehearsal Studios and the search will come to Chicago on Feb. 18th at the Chicago Academy of Arts.

"Hairspary" actually is a 1988 John Waters film, which previously was turned into a Tony-winning Broadway musical in 2002. Joining the musical comedy cast is only John Travolta so far, but don't worry we tell you who's next.
