'Ghost Rider 2' Is Not a 'Reboot'

"Ghost Rider 2" will be darker than the first one, but screenwriter David Goyer recently insisted that it can't be called a reboot. Asked by MTV on the truth behind the swirling reboot speculation, the co-creator of TV series "FlashForward" was quick to utter what he has in mind of the sequel to 2007's "Ghost Rider".

"It's not exactly a reboot," the 43-year-old claimed. He went on explaining, "I hate to say it's more realistic, because he's got a flaming skull for a head, but it's a bit more stripped down and darker. It's definitely changing tone. What 'Casino Royale' was to the Bond movies, hopefully this will be to 'Ghost Rider.' "

Nicolas Cage Plans to Reconceive 'Ghost Rider 2'

Nicolas Cage, the star of 2007's "Ghost Rider", recently revealed his idea for "Ghost Rider 2", stating that he's looking less toward "sequel" and more toward "reboot" for the next film. "I would like to do a reconceive," the 45-year-old actor stated in an interview with MTV News. "I would like to go in a whole other direction, and I think that's what they're talking about."

When asked what kind of reconception he exactly meant, Cage explained, "I would make it much less of a Western and more of an international story." The "National Treasure" actor, who has expressed his willingness to reprise his role as Johnny Blaze, further uttered that the new concept will still include the early rumored storyline, which is to bring the skull-faced character in a battle with evil in Europe alongside the Catholic Church.

In the latest update to the "Ghost Rider" franchise, Bloody-Disgusting reported that "Ghost Rider 2" is indeed being developed by Columbia Pictures. Breaking out the news, the publication claimed that the studio have had "Ghost Rider" star Nicolas Cage attached to reprise his role as stunt motorcyclist Johnny Blaze, and begun their search for writers to pen the sequel's script.

Before Bloody-Disgusting came out with the news, Cage has hinted that the sequel to "Ghost Rider" was being planned. Earlier, he revealed the possible plots for the sequel, suggesting that his character may be having some connection with Catholic Church and may be seen "going on a motorcycle tour through Europe" in the new adventure.

The bike-riding flaming skull may be crossing to other continent in "Ghost Rider" sequel. Sharing out ideas for "Ghost Rider 2", Nicolas Cage revealed that Johnny Blaze will possibly be seen traveling around Europe for his new adventure saying, "We talked about going international with that character, taking him into Europe, going on a motorcycle tour through Europe.".

Talking at a conference call for his up and coming film "Bangkok Dangerous" about the discussions he had with studio executives three months ago, the Academy Award-winning actor further revealed that in the new journey, his damned character may have some connection with Catholic Church. "He's connected with the Church, if you can believe that," he explained. "So it sort of has elements to it that are very much in the zeitgeist, like Da Vinci Code and things like that."
