Competing for Most Laughs, 'Get Smart' Outsmarted 'Love Guru' at the Box Office
June 23, 2008 10:06:03Last Friday on June 20, "Get Smart" and "The Love Guru", two new comedy movies starred by top Hollywood comedians started to battle it out in the theaters to gain box office glory, but as in any other competition one will come out victorious while the other can only watch. In this case, "Smart" starring Steve Carell outlaughed Mike Myers' "Guru" by far nailing the crowned spot and leaving "Guru" on the fourth place.
Winning the number one slot of the North American weekend box office, the spy spoof movie raked in an impressive $38.7 million from 3,911 theaters making it the second #1 summer movie adapted from a television show following "Sex and the City" and becoming the second biggest live-action comedy opener of 2008 after "SATC". It also brought biggest bow movie throughout the career of its main stars, Carell whose "Evan Almighty" topped last year chart with $31 million, Anne Hathaway whose "The Devil Wears Prada" debuted with $27.5 million and Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson whose "The Game Plan" ruled the box office on its first weekend screening with nearly $23 million.

Getting a Smart Choice With 'Get Smart'

This coming Friday on June 20, a compulsively efficient analyst, Maxwell Smart, will also be living on his dream of being a secret agent for the spy company he works for in Warner Bros. Pictures' newest comedy movie "Get Smart". But, with another comedy film "The Love Guru" in hot pursuit to pose a tough challenge, can "Smart" rise to the occasion and win the box office battle like when Po beat Zohan from "You Don't Mess With the Zohan"?
Apparently, many of the movie critics believe so as they praise the Peter Segal-directed movie to be an entertaining comedy flick. Commenting on the movie adaptation to the hit 1960s spy parody television series of the same name, Village Voice's J. Hoberman simply called this movie as a pleasant surprise given that it is "more an all-purpose (and often quite funny) goofball action comedy". In similar tone, Jeff Otto of ReelzChannel.com saw it to be "breezy summer fun". In a more critical approval, Emanuel Levy from EmanuelLevy.Com lauded Steve Carell for his successful attempt in delivering the spy nerd and providing the goofy moments.

Red Carpet Coverage: 'Get Smart' Making Its Way to World Premiere
June 17, 2008 10:06:04In the all-new action comedy "Get Smart", Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway wear their finest black-tie suit and stunning dress for their cover-ups in their mission to stop evil crime syndicate KAOS from dominating the world. But, on Monday, June 16, night, the pair dressed up to impress as the Warner Bros. Pictures held its world premiere in Los Angeles, California.
Strolling down the red carpet that has been laid in front of the Mann Village Theatre in Westwood, Carell and Hathaway were joined by their other co-stars, including Alan Arkin, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson, Ken Davitian and Masi Oka, and the film's director Peter Segal. The special screening event, which red carpet was highlighted with a signature telephone booth used by CONTROL agents to get into the headquarters, was also attended by other celebrities, naming some were Bernie Kopell, Jenna Fischer, Terry Crews and Cedric the Entertainer.

Before moviegoers enjoy their latest comedy movie on the silver screen on Friday, June 20, the studio offer a seven-minute sneak preview of "Get Smart" through their collaboration with Apple.
Available to be downloaded free from iTunes, the extended clip exposed the two main characters, Maxwell Smart and Agent 99, in their first mission together. Opened with a special introduction made by Steve Carell and Anne Hathaway, it may possibly shoo boredom away with the hilarious scene provided. The clip also displays an impressive skydive sequence.

'Get Smart' Third Trailer Brings More Laughters
May 30, 2008 03:05:36Though several revealing and funny trailers of Steve Carell's new movie "Get Smart" already have made their way to the virtual world earlier, it doesn't mean that the studio have run out of clips to be shown to the potential audience. Through the online release of the comedy movie's third trailer, Warner Bros. Pictures have given one another chance to get sneak peek into the film.
Though most of the clips compiled within this trailer are mostly similar to the previous released video footages, the new trailer still offers several bits of unseen footages scattered throughout the two and a half minutes video. The trailer also presented Maxwell Smart in a more serious tone than those before although some footages still expose his clumsiness as an inexperienced superspy agent. It also gives out a closer look into the relationship between Smart and his partner Agent 99.

Five New Revealing 'Get Smart' TV Spots Online

Pictures have given the future audience a chance to refresh their mind on the Steve Carell's action comedy by releasing five television spots of the movie on the net. Though the spots contain many footages that have been unveiled before through its trailers, they still reveal new unseen clips.
Timed exactly at 32 seconds, each of the spots brings in different themes for the promotional of the comedic movie. All of the video footages promotes the clumsy first-time Control agent, Maxwell Smart in a sarcastic way. By that, it means that while the narrator hails agent Smart for his wit and his great work as a super agent, the clips viewed show differently through which he can be seen doing things that spy agent should not be doing.

Official Trailer of Anne Hathaway's 'Get Smart' Outed!

Pictures. The almost two and a half minutes video footage has been screened at WonderCon in San Francisco before being posted in the web.
Started in a more serious tone than the teaser, the trailer slowly builds up its comical tone as the video goes on. Most of the scenes presented in the clips compilations are not showcaseed in either the teaser or the international trailer, such as the clips in which a man getting hit by a bus and The Rock misusing a stapler by stapling a paper to a man's face.

The release of the nearly two minutes trailer follows the outing of the action comedy's teaser earlier. The video footage is considerably longer than the previous teaser which contains the movie's scenes for a few seconds over one minute.
Unlike the teaser trailer which mostly shows a scene in which Agent Maxwell Smart is struggling to open the phone booth door after getting out from the secret headquarter, the international trailer provides more actions, explosions and tickling scenes. It displays the evil crime syndicate 'KAOS' plot on world domination showing the powerful bomb they have. The video footage also shows the spy-tech gadgets used by Smart, including the 'shoe phone'.

While it is known that the flick will be made based on the 1965 Mel Brooks/Buck Henry-created sitcom, The Rock will play a new character called Agent 23 instead. If a deal is signed, Hathaway will positively be billed as CONTROL Agent 99, the role originated by Barbara Feldon on the small screen. Meanwhile Carell has already been plotted to portray the lead character Maxwell Smart, played in the original version by Don Adams.

December 05, 2005 11:12:05Peter Segal has been tapped to direct "Get Smart," an upcoming action comedy which is the big-screen adaptation of the classic TV series for Warner Bros. Pictures. Created by Mel Brooks and Buck Henry, the series saw the late Don Adams act as Agent 86, a spy for CONTROL, fighting the evil forces of KAOS.
Whereas for the big screen version, which has just undergone a rewrite by Tom Astle and Matt Ember, moviegoers will see Steve Carell playing Adams' role as hapless secret agent Maxwell Smart. As of the story, it will contemporize the setting, with CONTROL falling on hard times and not getting the big government funding other spy agencies, like the CIA, do.

UMMM REALLY FUNNY LIKE EVERYTHING STECE CARREL HAS DONE.... ANNE HATHAWAYS CHARACTER FLAWLESS... UMM I SPEACIALLY LIKED THE 4 MINUTES SONG BY MADONNA FEAT. JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE.. I AM A MADONNA FAN SO THAT SOGN PUT ME TO DANCE DURING THE MOVIE.. AND WHEN THE END CREDITS STARTED TO SCROLL UP THE SONG CAME OUT AND I DANCED MY WAY OUT OF THE ROOM....

Some of hollywood's stupid sexual innuendos kept me from being able to recommend it to anyone, but aside from those the movie delivered strong. I'll be seeing it again... and loving it!

posted by Optimis on Jun 24, 2008This was a great movie. Steve Carell was endearing and funny without being stupid. Even the smaller roles (Bill Murray and Masi Oka) made the audience laugh. There were also cool stunts, action scenes, and gadgets. I loved it! It was the best movie I have seen in a long time.
